Greetings lovely friends & readers
On my table this week, a sweet enamel kettle filled with flowers from my Garden ... hydrangeas, alstroemerias. lavender, zinnias & pompom dahlias.
Using some Christmas money I treated myself to a new length of Oilcloth for my table ... this one is so pretty.
If you look at the right hand photo, you can see by my arrow that I still have "my display piece" from last weeks
post 🐈⬛😮 !!
On this dull rainy day it is hard to photograph & do it justice - it is the softest dusky pink - called Elise Pink Blush.
I have made a determined effort these school holidays to restrict Sid's screen time. Some days I succeed & others not so - we have crafted lots!! He was gifted some Gem Art kitsets & these have been a LOT of fun to create with.
One of the kitsets made up 3 bookmarks, we finished the 2 on the left & the right hand one is still to complete. Granny especially enjoyed these crafts 😉
Although it feels like I have done very little crafting myself, looking back through my photos shows otherwise.
I found this tray in my sleepout & decided to chalk paint it for my bedside table. I wanted to be able to pick up the tray with everything on it, not individually.

| Lightly sanding it showed up the detail in the handles |
Using pale duck egg chalk-paint, I am thrilled with how it turned out & lightly sanded it once dry. A couple of coats of wax & it was complete.
Since the New Year I have been on a sorting/decluttering mission, slowly going through cupboards & drawers. This cross stitch was attached to a card & I kept it because it really appealed to me. I made it up into a simple pillow backing it with some Tilda scraps & then stitched a fluffy yarn around the edges.
I filled it with crushed walnut shells so it sits plumply, also added an old broken earing of Mums to the bow.
I am waiting on my 2026 charms to attach to the back - they are currently in-the-post.
In another cupboard I found this broken Angel, which I still loved. Her dress, wings & body parts were badly fly marked so I removed the dress & very gently washed her body before glueing her back together again.
I sewed her a new skirt & gave her new feather wings ... I thought she looked so much better. I have yet to find just the right spot to hang her.

| My Hoop measures 33 cms across in diameter |
I have long admired the hoop art that you see on Pinterest & often purchase hoops when I see them in the Op-shops. I decided it was finally time to try & use them up! I found a piece of old linen to fit my hoop & then sewed lengths of vintage lace across it, leaving little openings to act as "pockets". I had lots of fun adding bits & bobs, some broken jewellery of Mums & buttons from Theodora Cleave tucking in tags & postcards here & there. I gave mine a Sewing Theme as I plan to hang it in my sewing room.
This has sat on my sewing desk for the past two weeks while I added bits as I had the time or sat & studied it, changed my mind, removed things. Once I was happy I sewed all my bits on & then backed it with a piece of wool felt. Once again, hard to photograph on this rainy day, hence I've taken it to the deck table.
I love projects like this that just sort of evolve.
So it seemed timely when I saw this Verse on Instagram yesterday & saved it ... I thought it was very true indeed, although I imagine you could say this about any year.
This little collage is titled A Day in the Life Of Pippi ... she moves from my potted Rhodohypoxis, to the suns rays in the lounge, to a drawer in my sewing room ... all in the course of a day (!!) What a stressful life she leads 😉
Thank you dear friends, for your ever-welcome visits here today,
Wishing you a wonderful rest-of-the-week,
Sending much love & friendship out to you all,
Your new oilcloth does look good and Sid's bookmarks are great. The tray looks beautiful and lovely to make use of the little cross stitch piece. Lots to look at in your hooped piece, I love it. Enjoy the rest of January. xx
ReplyDeleteOh another great post, love the oil cloth and the book marks .
ReplyDeleteThey also have cards to make like the book marks , I have been tempted .
Have a lovely week hugs June.
The thing that sticks out for me is the 'Broken Angel'
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds a bit weird, but, that's me all over,
there's nowt worse than a broken angel...Good lord,
and what would be said...?
I think she looks lovely, and very artistic of course....! :).
Oh! And l'm very impressed by the 'Hoop Art' also very
artistic, being able to make various types of designs
with various colours...Lovely that...!
And nice to see Sid, still at it, he's coming along just
fine, seems to have a lot of new ideas, helped along by
his Granny, l'm sure...HeHe! Granny knows best...! :(.
I'm home to~day, as l look out the Paddington Bear curtains,
it's chucking it down...so, l'll pop off and make another lemon
tea, with honey and lemon of course...maybe take the idea
of Miss Pippi..!x And rest a bit....HeHe! Me! Me! Rest! That'll be
the day...! ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
I meant to say....I do like Victoria Erickson and her
Deletequotes....Well worth a Google.....
“I love getting older. My understanding deepens.
I can see what connects, I can weave stories of
experience and apply them.
I can integrate the lessons. Things simply become
more and more fascinating.
Beauty reveals itself in thousands of forms.”
— Victoria Erickson.
I love the Victoria Erickson quote - very appropriate! The angel looks great after her wash and brush up and it looks like Sid (and Granny) had a great time! I think the black and white 'display piece' looks very happy as does Miss Pip in her various beds! Your hoop art is decorative and lovely but holds much more meaning for you (and that's what art is all about, isn't it?).
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely art and craft-filled week
Best wishes
Ellie
Loving the flowers of course. Nice that you found a lovely piece for table cover. I like the soft pink. And here you go waving the paint brush again, on that extremely valuable silver tray. What would the maid say when she's used to rubbing off the tarnish every week, lol. I like how the angel got a second chance at a new bright life. She's cute. And Sid, well of course he's cute. Fun craft for you both. Hope he doesn't out grow crafting too soon. Miss Pip, you'd not like it here now. Seldom any sun. But actually Precious did have an hour of it late yesterday afternoon. Today? Dark and windy over the few inches of snow on the ground. We are to have 5 more on Sat. And then next week a lot of our nights are to be -17 C!!!!!!!!!!! Days not much better. Precious has a blood test appt on Tues the 27th and we are hoping by then the snow is cleared off and we can pre heat the car an hour or so before we load in, lol. I do have one bloom on my African violet, that's it for flowers. My over wintering pots of impatiens are thick and green and my coleus are alive. So sad to hear about the farm kitten. Since it was not winter, hard to tell what sickness it had picked up. Take care. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to see spring and summer as I am stuck in the winter dreary.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim. You would not have thought it was summer here yesterday, rain & winds & very cold - I ended up back in winter clothes. Warmer today though. xx
DeleteSimply beautiful Julie xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sandy. xx
DeleteSuch a lovely array of creativity in this post Julie. It is snowing here again so I am trying to create while the weather keeps us indoors. Enjoy your week. Sarah USA xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah - Oh I think snowing weather would be perfect for being indoors creating! I hope you get some warmer temps soon. xx
DeleteBeautiful flowers, and my hasn't Sid shot up! Just love the angel and the hoop. Looks as if Pippi has had a full day, lol. You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sharon. It is just lovely to have you back posting on your blog again. Yes Sid sure has shot up - he will be 9 in April (!!).
DeleteLovely flowers from your garden. Sid is getting so big. I love all that you manage to create.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You have indeed been busy with a lovely variety of things...
ReplyDeleteHugz
What a great way to spend January. Glad that Sid has enjoyed the crafting too. I especially liked the little x-stitch pillow.
ReplyDeleteI was given two crafting kits for Christmas and have done the first, and will start on the other today. I also blew the dust off a kit I found in a charity shop (£1) and finished that last night. Not in a quilting mood though.
So many lovely things to see - the flowers are gorgeous and the gem art looks fun and absorbing.
ReplyDeleteHoops make a wonderful basis for expression and your painted tray is a work of art.
Have a lovely weekend, Julie.
Lovely post Julie, you have had a busy start to the year. Well done to restrict some of Sid's screen time, it is not an easy thing to do. The book marks look fantastic! Love, love, love the hoop, such a great idea. The tray looks so good and now has a new lease on life! Ah Miss Pippi! So many places to rest thoughtfully provided by your Mum! Great quote.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I chuckled when you said it didn't seem as if you'd done much crafting, lol! You had evidence to the contrary ;) Pippi has to make sure everything lays flat, clearly!!
