Sometimes Blog Posts Just Won't Come ..............................

Greetings lovely friends & readers

I have had these photos loaded for a few days now but have not been able to find blogging words to write down ... today is my 3rd attempt.

I had to drop everything & drive down to my Mums again (3rd time this year) after she popped a Ligament in her knee.  I would like to say she is doing much better now but I can only say I think this is going to be a long slow process.  I also had Mum assessed for Resthome Care & she now has help coming in for five mornings a week - much to her disgust & annoyance. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For years I called Mt Taranaki a "she" but have been told it is a "he".  He was not wearing his usual white coat but was equally as spectacular looking & never fails to take my breath away when I come round a bend.  Quite by accident I found this cute little cafe in Inglewood called Lure Cafe.  I am so pleased I stopped my journey for a coffee & a caramel slice as it was just delightful.

I was so busy photographing all the eclectic things inside I forgot to get an outside pic so this one is borrowed off their Facebook Page

Jellie the Pig in a paddock outside & a friendly Goat also.

Delightful spaces to sit both inside & out.

A gorgeous array of eclectic vintage treasures to be found in different rooms inside the Cafe.

Along with my coffee & slice I made a purchase ... here is what I bought below ..........

He (She ??) caught my eye & I could Not resist bringing him home with me.  The girl behind the Counter told me it was her own work which made it even more special to me.  I love to create but I also love to support fellow crafters by buying their work.

And Yes dear friends, before you ask ... I did find some treasures at the op-shop ๐Ÿ˜Š I love the Hospice Shop in Stratford - its clean & well laid out & very reasonable prices.

This unusual metal urn was from the Hospice Shop in Hawera - $5 ... I plan to do something with it but just not quite sure what as yet.

This book/letter rack was a $2.50 purchase back in * this post * at Christmas time - once again from the Stratford Hospice Shop.

My friend Sally had gifted me these 2 beautiful books, one for my Birthday, one for Christmas.  I decided to revamp the book rack to display my books in so I gave it two coats of Chalk paint, Pale Duck Egg.  I had to sand the folk art flowers off the front first as their outline kept appearing through my paint.

Some offcuts of Re-design transfers in keeping with the bee/butterfly theme, just completed the rack & the books look perfect sitting in it on display.

I wondered why the tiny succulent cuttings I had planted in this old watering ram in my garden were not doing especially well.

I think they have been somewhat flattened by a certain four-legged creature who weighs a tonne !!

Sid is currently obsessed with all things Pokemon related.  Last week I looked up the names he told me on good-old-google & we found images & printed them off ... he spent happy hours cutting them all out & I learnt new names I had never even heard of !!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank You So Very Much for stopping by today dear friends,
I shall be back in a couple of days with a follow-up post,
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
With much love & friendship to you All,
Julie & the furry ones x0x0x

  1. I would have have chosen the little handmade deer too, it's beautiful. What a lovely cafe to spend time in with all those treasures to explore. I am sorry you have so much distance between you and your mum, it must make it very tiring and worrying for you with the long journey. I think people mainly are concerned about keeping their independence but residential care these days respects that and brings the benefit of having companions and not being lonely :)

  5. My Mother resists all attempts at anything remotely 'help-related' and she's still driving and tottering around on heels, despite cramming her gout-inflicted feet into pointy-toe'd boots! We realise how lucky we are with her being 91 and still relatively independent. I'm the one that could do with the help! Sorry you have to travel long distances to tend to your Mum but a great idea getting her the help she needs, even though she doesn't think she wants it! Have a good weekend, Julie.xxx

  6. Forgot to say, there is an artist called https://www.instagram.com/quaintmarie/ who makes beautiful things not dissimilar to your lovely deer - though I guess a lot more pricier!

  7. Julie, I'd say you had enough going on and it's no wonder you were having trouble doing a post. However the one you've done is your usual best. I would say that shop you stopped at and had a bite to eat was quite lovely. It's nice to see that there are crafty people they're able to sell their items in their own store. The first time I ever read your blog was probably about 5 years ago when you were at an outside craft fair. It was the one where you had these beautiful chairs with lovely cushions on them and somebody spilled coffee all over them. I love seeing all your work back then and felt so bad when I saw what a mess that person left. I can't imagine that Blackie would just ruin your flowers, LOL. Surely there was something much bigger than him like the pig at the cafe. Looks like a fun time with your grandson trying to figure out all the Pokemon names. Lynn and Precious xx

    1. Thanks for your sweet kind comment Lynn & Precious. Gosh I remember that lady that spilt the coffee !!! How could I ever forget. My small town has stopped holding those craft fairs with the pandemic ...it seems that everything like that has been put on hold. I did used to enjoy those days. Blackie is back in the top of the water ram again today so No I can't blame anyone else ๐Ÿ˜‰ Tho I'm sure he would like to. I hope you both have a great week ahead & get some fine weather soon. xx

  8. I have been having problems putting together a post the last few days too. I think my mind is somewhere else with what's going on in the world right now. I'm sorry to hear about your mum and hope she will get to feeling better soon. You sure did get some nice photos and nice scores along the way too. I would love to hang out with Sid, I know all the Pokรฉmon! Does Sid play Pokรฉmon Go? Have a fantastic weekend! :)

  9. Prayers for you Mum
The letter rack reminds me of a napkin holder I use to have. The deer is adorable! It is done well with the stylish stitching.

  10. I hope mum settles and accepts her care givers, it will be a great weight off your shoulders to know she has good support.
Love those books, we should all be planting for bees and butterflies.

  11. Cute deer Julie, and all your other finds, hope your mums knee heals soon for her, my middle almost 32yr old son still plays pokemon games๐Ÿ˜‚ I think I have some of the trading cards in my stash from one of my other boys I can send you for Sid, think I was going to try and use them in junk journals, but I have finished making them now. Chris xoxo

  14. You found some lovely things. That urn is gorgeous.

  15. I hope your Mum accepts some help Julie, even if not happily! The place you stopped in Inglewood is wonderful, so much to look at and enjoy, your deer is beautiful, something you might make! You found some goodies at the op shop, that urn is most unusual. Ah Blackie, as I keep saying they find the best places to rest don't they! Looks a good size for him! Sid is doing really well cutting out his Pokemon figures, my youngest used to collect Pokemon cards I seem to remember. Lovely post Julie.

  16. Oh dear old age is such a pain...literally sometimes! I am glad help has been put in place despite the opposition. What a gorgeous Cafe....a real treasure by the photos. I shall look forward to seeing what magic you work on your new haul. Surprised the succulents proved comfortable for Kitty lol! Loved your post as always...a treat xx

  17. Julie you are doing a good job of helping out your mum. It is hard when they are stubborn about accepting help. The deer is sweet, I am sure you will find the perfect spot for him.

  19. Oh, I am sorry about your Mum, but it is good that you have arranged help to go in (whether she likes it or not).
How do you know if a mountain (or a wool deer, for that matter) is a he or a she?
The coffee shop looks like a really delightful place. I love finding places like that where you can't wait to have a chance to return and enjoy all they offer. You found some treasures that I am sure you will put to good use.
Love the holder you made for those sweet books. Very clever.
So much for the chances of anything surviving in that planter! :)
Very smart way to provide Sid with the Pokemon characters he loves, and giving him something to do with his hands!

  20. I hope your Mum's knee heels quickly. The deer is very cute. More lovely op shop buys. I love the little bowl that looks like cross stitch. An elderly friend gave me her dinner set like your bowl. It use to be her every day set. I have it in the cupboard as I don't want it to break! I should use it when I have the Chit Chat Crafters over. Yes, I think I'll do that next time. Mitchell used to love Pokemon too when has was about 4 or 5. He had a red tee shirt that he always wore. As soon as it was washed he had it on again!

  21. The little deer is sweet and so beautifully made. A fabulous cafe to have discovered. The holder is perfect for those books, especially sporting the butterfly decals. It must make your mind rest a little easier now that your mum will have care. Love the photo of cutting out all those Pokemon characters. It is amazing how each generation loves Pokemon.
