Greetings lovely friends & readers
I have decided to split this Sewing Post into two parts as it is rather long-winded.
The first bunch of daff's & Jonquils picked earlier this week - these looked so cheerful on my kitchen bench π

(The marks at the top are just the velour been rubbed the wrong way, not dirt as it appears) |
Using some birthday money I purchased a new sewing chair in the 50% off sales. My old one came from an Op-shop & was always uncomfortable. I adore this new pink velveteen one & - so far - no cats have discovered it (!!) π€
When I did my sewing room clean-out in * this post * I put aside quite a variety of kitsets that I'd either been gifted, or purchased in recent years. I wanted to get them made up & either used, or put in the gift box for someone else to enjoy. I decided to make a start on some of these. The first one I sewed was this triangle pouch made in a sashiko design fabric, fully lined & with a cute owl zipper-pull.
The fun thing about kitsets is that everything is there, you don't have to think about what fabrics, trims etc ... you just Sew!
Choosing the simpler ones first π, I next made up these "Woodland Santas" hanging tree decorations. These are only the size of a pen, so not large. I thought these might be the perfect size to include in my Grandsons Advent calendar stockings.
This Snowflake Table Runner was included in a Tilda Christmas box that I purchased in 2022 from Kitty Rose Cottage. There were 6 kitsets in the box & this was my last one to be made up. I loved the fussy cut hexagon Tilda bird in the centre. I had started the English Paper Piecing on this awhile ago, put it aside & not come back to it. I am so pleased it is finished now & can be used in this years Christmas decorating.
I hand quilted mine & also added a snowflake charm to each corner as I found a packet of different snowflake charms in my stash.
When I visited my friend Claire in * this post *, & she presented me with the china bowl filled with beautiful goodies ... included was a tiny French General Charm pack. So I sewed it up into a small mat ~ this one was machine quilted ~ I just adore this fabric range. π Next project (not a kitset) was a new ironing board cover. I'd purchased a generous length of Cath Kidston fabric last year to recover my board & make a new curtain for the spare bedroom. (A curtain for a shelf, not the window)
To make a new cover I simply remove the old one, take out the elastic, lay it on the floor & cut around it, sew a casing, thread with new elastic, Viola ~ Easy Peasy !
The same with making the curtain - I used the old one for a "pattern".
As you can see above, I had the usual supervision assistance with this project (!!) π³
And Yes I did have to wait 'til she woke up again to continue because I am pathetic like that ! π
But the new curtain turned out lovely & so fresh looking.
I had the loveliest visit from my friend Sally last weekend & she presented me with this beautiful book as a birthday gift. I absolutely adore Jessie Chorley's style & work, & this book has inspired me to do more slow stitch work.
This verse above rather sums up my sewing room currently dear friends & I have lots of "ideas lying around"
I am off to have a tidy-up but I will be back during the week with Part two.
Thank you as always dear friends, for your welcome visits here today,
With much love & friendship to you all,
A lovely creative post Julie. The triangle pouch purses have multiple uses, threads, lipsticks… Your pink chair looks lovely xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much dear Sandy. I am thrilled with the new pink chair & it is very comfy. I am making a determined effort NOT to let the cats discover it (!!) xx
DeleteLovely to have those kits made up and I love the French General. Perfect chair and the fabric you chose for your cover and curtain is gorgeous. That is a great book for your collection. xx
ReplyDeleteLove coming over to your blog ,
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely goodies to see.
Have fun hugs June.
Some lovely pieces there, Julie, and it's a good feeling to complete something that's been *waiting* for you. I love your curtain fabric - it's so fresh and pretty.
ReplyDeleteOf course cats can't be disturbed - they are the masters (and mistresses) of the universe.
Firstly l must say...Love the saying at the bottom....
ReplyDeleteThink it could apply to Miss Pippi...HeHe! Bless!x
At least she's still on hand to help out Julie...
And...Pussy~cats 'must' have their own way...! :O).
I was just ironing a couple of T~shirts and a couple
of Cargo shorts yesterday....and thought my ironing
board cover needs replacing, l think there are three or
four on there already, l usually take off the bottom one,
and put a new one on top...keeping it nice a soft to iron on..
All the covers l use are 'pink' of course....What else...! :).
HaHa! Why are the cats food/water bowls under the
ironing board Julie...Is that just in case it rains....? HeHe!
Well l must get on, suns out in all it's glory....it's been very hot
over here...and we've had three heatwaves...though rain/storms
forecast for next week...! :(

Julie, by now I am betting that one of the fur babies has found that comfy sewing chair. And to think how the furs will stick to the velveteen. Whoops, shouldn't have jinxed you, lol. The santas are delightful. I have some red felt and just by looking at your photo, I may be able to make a couple for our tree. The quilt with the gradient shades of dark maroon to lighter really looks great. Now it seems you may be doing more embroidery by the look of that book. Here, I just finished a small doily in white with pink center and pink edge. Only 8 inches across. I have red thread out now for a square doily for Christmas, only 10 inches or so across. We have a cool spell today with dark dampness but little rain. Tomorrow the temps go back to over average, mid 90's (32 C) for days. I got out on the bike yesterday and planned it for this cool morn but the drizzle stopped that. Keep the home fires burning, and may that not be for much longer. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been busy. Love those cute zippy pouches. It's good to get a few things done, leaves one feeling very satisfied.
ReplyDeleteLove your projects. The santas are so cute. I had to laugh as i do the same if the cat is sleeping. :) It's nice to get things done. Like Lou said feels satisfying.
ReplyDeleteYour projects are always so well done. Love the Santa ornaments. I remember with fondness now how Shania would try to help me cut out patterns.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The little santa gifts for your grandsons advent calendar is a lovely idea. Your chair looks nice, comfort is king!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a lot of projects and how lovely they all are! Your chair looks very smart and comfortable too. It's good to see that Miss Pippi is still involved in 'helping' you. I too have many, many ideas lying around everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your other projects.
Best wishes
Ellie
Lovely bouquet!
ReplyDeleteAnd your new sewing chair looks really comfy!
Good for you working your way through your kits. I really like the little pouch. I rarely actually make a kit. I just seem to cannibalize the materials in them for other projects. Then if I ever actually WANT to make the kit, it is incomplete--in other words, everything I need ISN'T there. LOL
Such cute little Woodland Santas.
Beautiful attention to detail on the Snowflake Runner. And I would call that little mat a mini quilt!
Love the way you created the ironing board cover and the curtain. But then of course they look great--you had SO MUCH help!!
Oh, thank you for the new description of my sewing room--not messy, just ideas all over the place. ;)
The new new chair looks absolutely purrrfect! ^^ :) You have been busy, I don't feel quite so bad with my self imposed to-do-list. I did notice the food bowls under the ironing board (new cover very pretty) are they your snacks or the furry friends? ^^
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sewing Julie, the woodland Santa's are so cute, the chair does look comfy, and such a cool book.
ReplyDeleteYour new sewing chair is just perfect. I wonder lots of times if it's the chair I use at the sewing machine that bothers my back and legs. Maybe I need to look for a new one. All the little projects turned out so pretty and I love the new ironing board cover and shelf curtain. Couldn't help but laugh about your waiting to finish the ironing board cover because of the kitty sleeping. Sounds so much like me!! I will say to Poppy, Smokey is asleep on my fabric so I can't finish cutting right now. Good grief, he says! I'll get him off! No, no, no, I say. You will scare poor Smokey to death. Let him sleep a while. :) Oh, and I love checking out the links you put in your posts like Jessie Chorley. She is amazing, reminds me of you!
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed your post Julie, and loved all the projects you have been doing - the wee mat made in the ombre colouway was a wonderful way to use the goodies. The wee triangular purses are gorgeous too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I am not the only one to wait on a cat - if my boy is inside, the vacuum cleaning has to wait...
That book looks amazing - what a fabulous gift.
Blessings
Maxine
Wonderful new chair Julie, have the furry three found it yet? You are going so well with your kits, great new ironing board cover and curtain. I would probably wait for the cat to wake up too!! Great book, looking forward to what you make.
ReplyDeleteYou have finished such lovely pretties, Julie. I must sew a new ironing board cover. I love the Cath Kidston fabric you covered yours with. Such a pretty pattern. Your new sewing is perfect. Love the pink velour.
