Greetings lovely friends & readers
(Warning - Photo Heavy Post)
Today on my table we have Remember Me Rose - I have 2 bushes now, one for each of my parents ๐งก It has the most divine fragrance.
As my garden finishes it's first flush of spring flowers I thought you might like to come for a little wander with me so I can share some of it with you. Tours are normally 5 cents but you get yours for free today ๐
Pippi has decided to join us - won't that be fun๐
As you drive in my gate you can either go to the left (first pic) or you can veer to the right which takes you past my house. Directly to the right is a large native garden that I try to keep a thick layer of mulch on, to curb the weed growth.
The left hand side takes you past my house & this is a flowering garden that leads to the deck. This little silvery groundcover was purchased a couple of years ago as a punnet - I have no idea what it is but this is the first year it has flowered & it's delightful. Please leave a comment if you should know the name of it.
Up past the deck we go - self seeded Granny's bonnets & Poppies in here - people tell me they are "weeds" but I love them.
Directly to the right is the Grapevine which runs the full length of our section - the Agapanthus were purchased as miniature but sure have grown to full size!! I used to weed down this & it would take me 3 solid days but now I prefer to "weed" with a sprayer (!!)
I have had a lovely display of Foxgloves this year which are coming to an end - another plant that people tell me are "weeds" & that I Love!

Petunias & Lobelia
|
Past the corner of the deck we go - my hanging basket is lovely this year despite the wind it gets.
Down the driveway past the carport. Red Dublin Bay Rose on the trellis - no scent but still beautiful & dries wonderfully for potpourri.
Over to the left is a large garden under the trees with lots of self seeded annuals & hellebores, geraniums, hydrangeas & heucheras. The trees in the background are maples.
Bill & Ben & Bob - my flowerpot men, sitting on stumps in the shade ... looking a little dilapidated but I still adore them.
To the far left of this garden is where I walk through to my clothes line & this has a buxus hedge around it. I grow dried flowers in here, statice & strawflowers & a couple of herbs. The tree is a Bay tree & I use the leaves in my citrus potpourri & cooking.
When we first moved here you could buy buxus plants for $1 each & that's how I started this hedge, adding to it with cuttings that I took over the years. The "dips" in it are where I've had buxus blight before & had to remove some bushes & replace them.
Past this garden are my two raised veggie beds, full of produce at the moment & then beside these is my Hothouse.
My tomatoes are fruiting which excites me, but no colour as yet.
Remember back in * this post * where I said I wanted to grow Giant Sunflowers outside my hothouse ... well they are growing but are hardly Giant ... more up to my elbow than above my head ๐
Looking past my cottage towards the end of the section where the depot yard is - our property is rectangular shaped running parallel to the road & surrounded on 3 sides by paddocks.
As you walk down the driveway the pond is over to the right - that's the Grapevine in the background.
The pump has sat like that for years - the stones were positioned to make a water feature & nothing further was ever done. I live in hope but it's wearing thin . . . ๐
Directly across from the pond on the left hand side is my large rose garden. This is filled with roses & penstemons & an old Seed Drill. I have planted a few dahlia bulbs in here this year also.
From the depot yard end looking back towards the rose garden & my cottage. Yes The Mr has mowed & I need to get the blower out to clear the driveway cobbles.
A small sampling of the many collections of Old Things that I have dotted around my garden (including myself !!!)
Well dear friends - that concludes our garden tour for the day & if you're anything like our Tour Guide - you're worn out!!
Thank you so very much if you stayed through this VeRy photo heavy post,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,
I very much enjoyed the tour and happy to pay double the asking price. I shall do that on Friday ๐ ~ Sue
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue - Yes I am looking forward to Friday - no need to bring 10 cents with you though ๐๐
DeleteWould love to visit your garden Julie. It looks like you started off with a very exposed landscape as I know you are farming people, so with farmland around you probably get weeds and seeds blowing in yet you have created some lovely designs and managed to keep it under control - love foxglove, grannys bonnet, wild flowers are so worth having and good for the bees! Your design is crammed with flower, fruit and herb beds and I see you used your boxus to shelter/divide. I love maple - I bet the leavea look fabuloua in Autumn. Your hot house would be my favourite place to spend time. I hope you get the weater pump going as it would make a lovely feature and attract additional varieties of insect and wildlife to your pond :) Betty
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Julie, I loved the tour, seeing your beautiful garden, so inspiring!! No wonder Miss Pippi is worn out , that is a lot of walking around supervising for her!

I believe that plants have feelings as well Willie. I have gone out and said many lovely words to my plants, shrubs, bushes to give me a good show. I have a beautiful rose flowering at the moment called Sally Holmes. She is beautiful and I tell her that and the show at the moment is drawing many kind remarks from neighbours and friends. Are you decorating you home for Christmas yet? I must say I have difficulty at this time, I lost my dearly beloved last year but I am getting better with ventures etc.
DeleteAh! Julie e~mailed me Shirley to tell me it was you....
DeleteThankyou, and nice hearing from you...Sally Holmes
of course is a 'rose' HeHe! I'm afraid roses are right
at the bottom of my list of favourite flowers...The
Pansy and Orchid being at the very top...but..there
it is, each to his own...!
The only decoration as such done in my home is the
crib....no tree, have'nt had a tree etc since my daughter
left home for Uni some years back...Goodness 37yrs
ago...
But the crib is the same crib mia Mama bought when l
was five years old...Goodness 73yrs ago...!
HeHe! Excuse me, while l have a lie down...! :O).
And yes...I've lost a lot of friends this year, more than l
care to remember...and as one gets older, one remembers
more, and memories come flooding back...! :(
But that is the way of the wold. and always has been....!
God bless Shirley...Thanks again...Onwards and Upwards....! :O).

Thank you for a wonderful tour, Julie. Your garden is beautiful, full of vibrant colour and scent, and never a weed to be seen, since weeds are only flowers growing in the wrong place.
ReplyDeleteJulie, thank you, thank you. This is so much more pleasant and real than looking at a garden magazine in February during a snow storm! I can not get over the size and amount and quality of your plantings. Years of hard work and dedication to make this happen. Thank goodness your yard dig up a couple years ago, all the damage has totally disappeared. I needed this post to see, as we have the dark and gloom today. Bird baths have been frozen 2 morns in a row. Days are warmer but no sun today. I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite spot in your garden to just sit and breathe it all in. You have your hands full with keeping this up. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteWow, Julie! What a stunning garden you have - full of beauty and interest. What a shame I am so far away as I would love to come over and spend time with you. It has turned a little colder here now and I think it will be a race to get pots insulated and bulbs planted. I love the 'weeds' too - poppies and foxgloves are so great for wildlife, to me they are certainly not weeds! Thank you for the tour, which I thoroughly enjoyed, especially as it's a rather rainy, grey day here. That poor tour guide - it's a hard life!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely flower-filled week!
Best wishes
Ellie
Thanks to you and your tour guide! Your garden and grounds are just fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much JJ. The tour guide was plum worn out & I did all the work !! ๐
DeleteBeautiful garden Julie. Thanks to you & Miss Pippi for the wonderful tour. Love your cute pot men.
ReplyDeleteForever beautiful Julie xx the old fashion plants never grow old
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Sandy - no we never tire of the old fashioned favorites I agree. xx
DeleteI miss visiting your beautiful garden ! It looks AMAZING! I know it takes you a lot of work to keep it looking so wonderful. Your 'weeds' are fabulous. I hope someone can help you with the name of the grey ground cover you are seeking a name for, if they don't Bob will suffice surely? Now where is your eftpos machine so I can pay my 5cents entry fee??
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful garden Julie, a lot of hard work gone into that, love your flower pot men.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tour of your beautiful garden Julie. The grape vine is very intriguing as I really want to plant grape vines here. You have worked so hard to make it so lovely.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Such a gorgeous post. Oh those roses...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your garden is just so lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed wandering with you. I cannot get over the blooms on your white geranium! Wow! I didn't realise your garden was that size....just beautiful xxx
A fabulous tour around your place, it looks so peaceful - no wonder you enjoy being out there...
ReplyDeleteHugz
Thank you for the tour, and I agree, foxgloves are not weeds.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - I totally agree with you - I am more than happy for those "weeds" to self sow in my garden.
DeleteThat is one absolutely amazing garden you have!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Martha - that is so kind of you to say.
DeleteI am in absolute awe of your garden Julie & I do not know how you find the time to care for it as well as do all your crafty pursuits & the myriad of other things that you do. Is there more than one of you perhaps?? Just loved the Tour & especially the tour guide. Thank you so much - it's especially lovely to see because we have snow falling here. Sarah USA xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sarah - please note I have shown the tidy bits of the garden & not the messy bits ... there are lots of those (!!!) xx
DeleteThank you for sharing your lovely gardens and thank the tour guide too.
ReplyDeleteGosh Julie, your garden is huge and absolutely beautiful. The Tour Guide was quite the people person and did such a good job lol Pam x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Pam - there are quite a few areas that are not "beautiful" but I have only shown the nice tidy bits with flowering things. The tour guide was just worn out after that ๐ธ๐xx
DeleteJulie, your garden is so big and lush! How ever do you manage it all? Thank you for sharing your beautiful space๐ฉตJennie
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet kind comment Jennie. xx
DeleteDear Julie, your garden is looking awesome and a real credit to you.I am lucky to be able to see this on regular visits. Miss Pippi, she is such a trick.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful garden but it must be a lot of work. I would love to sit and stich there. Looks very relaxing.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is lovely - my favorite time of year. Flowers blooming and birds singing, I just wish Wellington was a bit warmer.
ReplyDeleteI am picking my jaw up off the floor and still in awe of all the work you do in your amazing yard. How do you find time to craft?!? I know you said this is just the tidy parts, but I only have a half acre yard and there is only 1 tidy part right now--the bed for my 5 roses, which I just tidied today. You, my dear friend, are incredible!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to add that the Remember Me roses look gorgeous. I am happy to hear that they are well scented.
Your garden is gorgeous! I have to admit I am jealous. You have done such an amazing job with it!
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are delightful, full of many of my favorite flowers, and I like how you have some separate areas for different garden uses. 5 cents is a bargain for this tour, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Terra - they are my favorite flowers too. My garden never followed any particular plan - it just "evolved" in my head, as do a lot of the things I do. Wishing you a happy day Terra .xx
