Greetings lovely friends & readers
And Welcome to October π
The Magnolia tree out from my dining room window, taken last week. The winds have blown most of the blooms off the tree now.
There has been a teeny bit of sewing completed here at Threadbear HQ - this Christmas bunting kitset was finished last week. It's based on a pattern by Bird Brain Designs but 'tis the season have kitted it & changed it a little. (I should note here that I began stitching this in January so its taken me a few months)
It's meant to have 16 square flags but I decided by No 10 that I'd had enough & felt it was long enough anyway.
My other completion was this tiny mouse kitset, again purchased from 'tis the season. She only measures 5 inches tall so was a tiny fiddly wee girl to stitch up.
And her felt teddy was only 1.5 inches ... can you imagine trying to stuff that teeny body - very nearly sent me cross eyed π!!
I had barely unpacked my suitcase from my Melbourne trip when I began seed sowing as my moon gardening calendar told me it was the perfect time.
I sowed sunflowers, hollyhocks, achillea & giant zinnias. My photos show right after planting (top left) & then (top right) just yesterday - they've grown so much that this morning I planted the sunflowers outside as I've had them hardening off on my deck.
The warmer milder weather we've had is making everything burst into bloom.
Dark purple "bluebells" & then pale mauve "bluebells". The wisteria is especially prolific this year for some reason - it can be inclined to sulk the odd year. I keep it well contained as they can be rampant.
After clearing everything away for the Painters last May I've begun hauling things out & giving them a scrub. My old pram is looking very rusty but I love it with a red geranium sat in it.
My chair planter needed a rust treatment & then another coat of coastal green paint. I've treated it to a new basket liner & some white petunias.
My cucumber & courgette plants were looking a bit sad in my veggie garden & I felt they needed some protection over them. I found some old wire baskets with missing chains & laced plastic over them securing with yarn, to make
little hothouses. I made up 5 altogether.
This project would've taken considerably less time had a certain furry creature NOT kept running off with my ball of wool π
I have this area to the left of my deck steps that is always untidy - nothing will grow there due to it being where I mix sprays etc.
The hose is here & it often becomes a dumping ground for various outdoor paraphernalia.
I decided to edge it & lay mulch to try to tidy it up. I used a rope to get my shaping right & then dug the lawn to begin laying my bricks. It is at this stage (top right) that I began to doubt my sanity ... the ground was rock hard & so difficult to dig.
Three days later, my bricks are finished & I've laid old meal bags down to stop any weed growth. I purchased some bags of mulch last Friday & was able to finish the area with a couple of stepping stones to get to my hose on the wall. I'm really pleased with how this turned out & a few pots would look nice sitting here if I choose to do this.
And at the far end of it the Clematis is in full bloom π
The last two weeks have been school holidays here in New Zealand & I had Sid some days. We made banana bread, mars bar slice & went to the movies, played football at the Domain & did colouring in ... Granny forgot to pick up her camera most of the time cos she was tired !! π
Thank you as always dear friends, for your ever-welcome visits here today,
Wishing you a wonderful rest-of-the-week ... remember to be kind to yourselves & to each other,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,
The garden is looking good. Lots going on. And that mouse, so cute.

Hello Willie, I enjoy your comments and get giggles. We here in NZ are having true Spring weather, blustery winds that blow all the beautiful new blossoms, magnolia flowers off the trees, but it has warmed up a bit now and the last 7 days have been true beautiful warmer sunny days. It all looks so pretty out in the garden now, Picking flowers, ( I know you don't like flowers inside. Someone told me!!) Seeing some fat rose buds as well .Well must finish off and go get my morning coffee. Keep well.Cheers.

Take care Shirley....Just gone eight, Precious would have posted by now,

I am so missing all those flowering colors already! You have a virtual rainbow of flowering plants now and I know you are ready for the change in color. Fun embroidery on the bunting and of course you know I love the mouse. And warm enough outside for you to do your painting outside instead of in with the burner on. Little One looks like he is definitely a huge help in the yarn department. Enjoy all the plants, and yes a potted flower on your new area would look like a great addition. We are back to one day of sun and heat, so I am off on the very last bike ride of the year. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to catch up with you. Your little mouse is adorable - you must have very nimble fingers. It's so nice to see a garden coming to life again after the winter. We're at the clearing and tidying end of things.
ReplyDeleteOh that mulch and brick combo looks amazing, good on you especially as the digging was so hard. I think your furry friend was making sure the yarn was suitable! Quality Analysis is very important!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much J.J. Yes the ground was rock hard but I got there eventually, taking lots of breaks. I was so pleased when all the digging was done. xx
DeleteYou have had a busy time again. Your plants are looking beautiful, as are the spruced up planters. The little mouse and her teddy are so sweet. I love the photo of Little One (well, of course I do) and he is looking very devilish as he grabs the wool! Your garden area looks really good so all that hard work was definitely worth it. Sid will be so pleased he learned to cook as he gets older - such an important skill. Have a lovely rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
Gosh you have been busy, so lovely when things burst with growth this time of year....
ReplyDeleteHugz
Your garden looks lovely as usual. My goodness I can't imagine trying to stuff a 1.5 inch teddy. You are amazing.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Julie, Love your garden spaces. It’s nice to have simplicity in the garden. Look forward to seeing your seedings grow. Life’s Simple Pleasures! Love all things Christmas! Sid & Granny have many special memories together. Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much dear Sandy. I have planted the sunflower seedlings outside now & hopefully can do the others soon too. xx
DeleteI so enjoy visiting you and reading your posts, Julie - it is a joy. Your two wee stitching projects are gorgeous - I was at an embroidery retreat this past weekend and 'tis the Season was there... I did not buy anything more.... a bit of a record for me!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking wonderful - my seedlings (tomatoes) are on my windowsill as yet... but they will soon go out onto the deck to harden off before planting out... I have brassicas growing well outside, and salad greens also.
Love how you have tidied up your corner - and I can see iut won't be long before a couple of pots make their way there :)
Blessings
Maxine
You inspired me to open the bag of garden stones which my neighbour gave me last month! Your garden is beautiful, Julie.I have similar garden furniture which could do with a glow up! I'll take inspiration from yours too!xx
ReplyDeleteA beautiful Spring catch up Julie. Where did you find the energy to dig all that for that area, but it looks super so I will come around and view it for reality. Time we went out for a coffee.
