Greetings lovely friends & readers
Thank you all so very much for your birthday wishes for Alec, in my last post, as he celebrated turning 10.
I drove down for the day & we had a wonderful extended family birthday lunch together. Unfortunately Alec's best friend who lives over the back fence, had Covid, so was unable to join us ... hence it was only adults.

Earlier this year I asked my blogging friend Maxine to make birthday cards for my Grandsons & I was delighted with what she came up with. I asked for a computer gaming theme & a soccer themed one. Alec was chuffed with his gaming themed card. Maxine does such a wonderful job of all the cards she creates.
As the last month of Autumn draws to a close & the nights close in earlier I have been enjoying some slow stitching.
I purchased this pattern above from * Here * earlier this year after watching Bec talk about her textile pinch pots on her YouTube Channel & thinking to myself I'd quite like to have a go at those!
I was thrilled with how my first attempt turned out - I spent ages adding bits of fabric & lace & vintage bits & bobs.
You start with a base made of wool blanket or felt, & then away you go embellishing it & covering both the outer & the inner. No Willie - it is not a Hat (!!) π I've photographed it upside down to show all the details.
I just so enjoyed adding in bits of Mums vintage laces, & then some embroidery over the top. I would like to make a tinier one next & see how that turns out.
Inspired by how my pinch pot turned out I decided to try making a slow stitched box pouch. I follow Sherry Iris on YouTube & often watch her making these box pouches, & have long wanted to have a go. You start with two pieces of slow stitched cloth, one for each side & then you make up the pouch with a fabric liner & wadding. It is not hard but it IS time consuming doing the pieced outers.

Once again just using up the tiniest scraps, lots of Tilda in here. I added some Kantha stitching in places just to reinforce all the tiny pieces of fabric & add definition.
I have been using this beside my lounge chair at nights & it is so handy for my bits of thread & offcuts of wool if I am knitting. Usually these bits would end up on the floor, now they are nicely contained in my box pouch. I would love to make a bigger version to go beside my bed & hold my handcream, glasses, torch etc.
Another thing I like to do as winter approaches is pull furniture out & give things a good clean behind, especially after summer & flies etc. I pulled together a small display on my vintage Singer sewing table in the dining area using
warmer tones & fabrics - cosy colours for the winter months ahead π€
Everything was already in my stash including Mum's old spud-&-onion pot that I revamped in * this post *.
Even my lounge mantlepiece got a wintery display including many of the rusted items that I have been working on recently.
Yesterday I snapped this pic of Madam Pip "nesting" on my pots of rhodohypoxis bulbs - once again, warming them for me.
And Little One on the right, looks like he is having a wash but he is actually sound asleep on my bed. Yes on the good quilt - where he is banned from π(!!)
Thank you as always dear friends, for your welcome visits here today,
Wishing you a wonderful weekend & may the coming week be good & kind to all of you,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,
Julie, the fabric pinch pot is adorable. I love your choice of fabrics, laces and adornments! The pouch bag too. Sitting beside the bed would be lovely. Love the cosy reds used in your winter displays. Beautiful hand made cards. How special… xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much my dear friend. It was fun pulling out all the bits of vintage lace & trims to use on the slow stitched pots - made a huge mess but was still fun (!!) xx ♥️
DeleteLovely post , love the little fabric pots ideal for your bits.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the Birthday boy., what a lovely photo.
Enjoy your weekend hugs June.
HaHa! Your way ahead of me this morning Julie....
ReplyDeleteYes! I immediately thought they were hats...! :).
And...Yes! I still think with a nice 'pink' flower
placed at the side, of the 'hat' it would look really
nice, bit of a fashion statement...! Certainly be
a talking point...! HeHe! "Go back to bed Willie"..! :(
I've just got back from town, very quiet it was to...
Not much about either, only two stalls on the market,
little rain about, but, nothing serious...gave the Charity
shops a miss, and came straight home...Monday is a
Bank holiday, so, an extra day off this weekend...!
Rain is forecast to...so, no change there then...! :(.
Very impressed with Alec's cake, looks really nice, l'm
partial to a bit of cake, especially 'Scroggin Slice' and
since l do cook, but never cakes, l enjoy cake that's
given to me..Nice! :O).
Nice to see Miss Pippi nesting on the pots...Has she
laid any eggs yet...Bless!x
And Little One...Away with the fairies...Bless...!x

more..Some slip through your fingers and onto the floor".
Oh, your lovely pinch pot and box pouch - wow! Your sewing skills are amazing. I'm glad that everyone had a good time for Alec's birthday celebrations (except his poor friend with Covid - that was very unfortunate). Your autumnal displays are looking beautifully cosy. Speaking of cosy, ahh, Little One - bless! Of course he would get onto the good quilt - cats purposely pick 'best' things to sleep on, don't they? I'm not sure Miss Pip looks quite so comfy though...
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
Best wishes
Ellie
Isn't it funny how cats can look so uncomfortable but don't feel inclined to move? Little One looks beautiful, as ever.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the furry ones haven't taken over your pinch pots - they would be so comfortable to rest on.
Your pot and box are lovely. The bit of embroidered runner with the tiny flowers looks just like the pattern on a runner I have from my maternal grandmother. Both things remind me so much of an old friend who did crazy quilting. All the bits of cloth and embroidery and embellishment. I remember how long it would take her to finish a project. Alec is certainly growing tall like his Dad. And Miss Pippi, you are looking a bit like a hen on a nest and so very pretty while at it. Precious often sleeps with her head up in the eve when we are doing our 3 hour leg time. Don't know how they do it. We are NOT warm here. It is 20 degrees below norm for the past 10 days and to continue all week long. With rain the past 6 days, I'm still not getting all my weeds pulled. I have missed out on so many wild flowers and shrubs blooming by being cooped up. I really think you and I are sharing the same nonsense weather. Only mine will eventually warm and yours will not. Have a great weekend. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteYour new bowl and box look beautiful. They are handy to have around. I have a couple of wee fabric box/baskets and use them a lot. Though they are not as pretty as yours.
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty pinch bowl and pouch....
ReplyDeleteHugz
Lovely pinch bowl and the pouch is gorgeous. Do our furry pets really listen to us when we ban them from an area. I know Shania never listened to me when I banned her from our bed.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Lovely post Julie, your pinch pot and pouch are wonderful, slow stitching is great but slow (LOL) I find it hard to not keep adding more bits! Great cards for the boys, and wonderful photos of the family. Oh Miss Pippi, getting those bulbs well under way there. Great winter display Julie.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are such a treat Julie - I love it when I see a new one on my screen. Love the slow stitching - it is something I have always wanted to try so maybe you have inspired me to give it a go. Sarah USA xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sarah - you are very kind. I think you should definately give slow stitching a go - it is very addictive. xx
DeleteHi ya my friend! Your slow stitching creations are so BEAUTIFUL! I can see how much you would enjoy the process, I guess you can use lots of little pieces. I've been itching to make another quilt using vintage linens. That's a shame your grandson didn't have his pal to share in his birthday celebrations, lucky he had you! Have you moved to giving him $$ now he's getting older? Your wintery display is ever so pretty. xox
ReplyDeleteGreat cards made for Alec, and Sid, love your little pot and pouch Julie. Love your display as well.
ReplyDeleteYour pinch pot is lovely Julie. As is the pouch. Such a great way to use up scraps and so special to have some of your Mum's vintage lace. xx
ReplyDeleteYour little pots are so cute! I wish I had more time outside of work to spend lots of time on creations like this. They are perfect for storing little items. Ahh your cat is so cute nesting in one of your outdoor pots. This was such a great post! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Alex - for leaving me your sweet, kind comment. Wishing you a lovely week. xx
DeleteHappy late Birthday to your Alex! 10 is such a special age...

Thank you so much for your sweet kind comment Donna. xx
DeleteI'm a bit late but your slow stitching is great. You are giving me ideas. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThats great Ilona!!! I am pleased my post has given you some ideas. I am really enjoying the slow stitching - it can be a teeny bit addictive. Have a great week Ilona. xx
DeleteOh Julie, what wonderful pinch pots and pouch - I love all the textures you have included with the laces and embroidery over the fabrics.. i am going to follow the links
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing the cards - I must go and blog them. With one thing and another, I have hardly been on line of late - hence why I am so slow in commenting ( I am gradually catching up).
Covid is rampant here too - all the family had it recently, but I didn't, thankfully.
Blessings
Maxine
