Greetings lovely friends & readers
Instead of flowers this week I am enjoying this $2.50 thrifted glass pedestal bowl filled with oranges from my tree. Though they are smaller in size this year, they are sweet & juicy & the tree is laden.
After a week of heavy frosts (-2 degrees on some days) we now have a cold southerly blowing. I have a Fridge Drawer Stew simmering away in the slow cooker which will last us 2 or 3 nights.
I have been finishing off some more kitsets, these ones with a Christmas-in-July theme. This Christmas Stitchery Roll was a recent purchase from Millymac Supplies & it came with everything required to make the roll although I added in lots of my own embellishments.
Really hard to get good photos on this grey overcast day. Stitched on linen, I backed mine with a thin wadding & then once stitched, I lined the entire roll with a length of Lynette Anderson Christmas fabric (included in the kitset).
Finished length of the roll is 50 cms not including the tag.
It is the sweetest little snippet roll - my photos do not do it justice. I am not sure how to display this at Christmas time, but definitely unrolled ... perhaps over the edge of my mantel?
The second kitset was purchased about 3 years ago now - from Tis' the Season - Matangi ... a beautiful patchwork store not too far from where I live. This is Woolen Heirloom Santa, based on a design called Scandinavian Snowflake Santa by Cameron James Designs It was re-kitted with permission & a definite Heirloom look to him. Everything was included in the kit (except the stuffing). This project took some time & patience, & brain power (!!) But I love how he has turned out. He has handmade felt boots, mittens & all his clothes are fully lined.
The length of Tibetan Lambswool used for his hair, beard, moustache & eyebrows was included but you had to cut these items out.
Now that he is complete, he is hanging out in my sewing room. I have told him he can stay out so long as he behaves himself 😉
Another finished project was these wool blanket seedling pots. I was given one for my birthday so I used this as a guide to make up my own pattern. I have lots of wool blanket offcuts from my many years of sewing for my craft cottage & these were a good way to use up the smaller scraps. I cut out & sewed up 20 of them.
There was no ironing required as I had an extremely helpful assistant 😸 that kindly helped with this task (!!)
My brother was having a birthday so I made up a gardening parcel to post to him along with some of the seedling pots, I also sent some South to a dear friend. The rest are filled with seed raising mix, waiting til my moon calendar tells me its good planting time on the 29th of this month, when I will sow my sweet pea seeds.
Blackies latest night-time sleeping place is the computer chair. Last night a certain Ginger Miss decided she wanted it too ... as you can see there was not a lot of room for two rather overweight large decent sized furry felines (!!) You surely cannot tell me that either one is comfortable ??!!
Thank you as always dear friends, for your ever welcome visits here today,
With much love & friendship to you all,
Julie… Your Luscious Orange Tree. So full of delicious goodness 🍊 Love your Santa & Christmas in July. Thankyou for my seedling pots. Looking forward to potting them xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much dear Sandy. I hope you have lots of success with the seedling pots (I hope I do too!!) ♥️ xx
DeleteI love your Santa! and the snippet roll is delightful. How lovely to have a laden orange tree - they do look good in the glass dish. xx
ReplyDeleteYouroranges look wonderful - how lovely to have homegrown citrus fruit.
ReplyDeleteI love your Scandinavian Santa - he could tell a tale or two.
Your well-upholstered felines seem to have reached an understanding about the chair. Cats often look uncomfortable, especially when they squeeze into small spaces, but, clearly, they're not. 🐈🐈⬛
What wonderful projects, Julie - your oranges in the glass bowl look amazing. Your 'fridge drawer stew' sounds fascinating - everything you could lay your hands on in the fridge drawer??
ReplyDeleteYour Stitchery Christmas Roll looks gorgeous - as does your woollen heirloom Santa. A great couple of kits to finish off - I visited "Tis the Season a few weeks ago with a friend - it is a real Aladdin's Cave!! Our coldest frost was -4 oC
The wool blanket seedling pots look fabulous - what a wonderful way to use up blanket scraps! Ironically I tossed a couple of very old blankets the other day... one would have been usable for seedling pots - the other was well past it.
NB one was my grandmothers 'wedding blanket', probably circa 1905, that she refused to let my mother cut up for underblankets for our cots, some 78 years ago, the other an old 'picnic' blanket from my in-laws .... I do love your ironing assistant :)
Cats on chairs - one does wonder how they can be comfortable at times - when my boy decides to share my chair he gets quite indignant when I move!!
Blessings
Maxine
The oranges look lovely, and you can see that there

PS...
A very Happy Christmas to one and all...for yesterday the 25th...!x
Such a lot to enjoy in this post, Julie. The oranges look lovely and if they taste good too, that is such an added bonus! Your snippet roll is beautiful and definitely should be hung up somewhere to be enjoyed. The Heirloom Santa looks great too and the labour or love to get him made was worth it. What a good idea for the blanket pots as eventually they will bio-degrade, being a natural fibre. In the meantime, they look really pretty and I would imagine that the seeds will grow well as wool insulates and also keep cool, depending on the temperatures. No, those cats do not look comfortable to me, but then they sit and manage to sleep in the most odd places sometimes!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
Best wishes
Ellie
Fun to see Miss Pip ironing and not on your newly covered ironing board. And then for a snuggle if she can fit in the chair. At least it is not the sewing chair! There are wild pink sweet peas blooming around the roadsides. I've brought home seeds and thrown out in the area we do not mow (for the wildlife) but none has ever taken. I'm disappointed. We are to have steamy hot and even wet weather until Aug. 1st, when this to break and bring us better less humid temps. Don't want summer to end, but it has been so hot that it has not been a lot of fun. Christmas in July in your sewing room. Fun Santa and so very detailed. Maybe this heat here will drift slightly your way and bring you a bit of relief from the cold. And you have your own oranges! Makes me jealous. Too far north here for such wonders. Have a great week ahead. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteApart from being lovely, you find and make the most unusual and interesting projects, Julie! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am envious of your low temps right now. Even though we are also in winter, it's been 20C every night and we sleep with the ceiling fan on to cool us just a wee bit. LOL!! In fact, this winter has been very warm indeed, some days 30C, but on average around 28C...but I refuse to eat salads every day, and let me mind pretend its actually cold so I can cook up pots of curry or the like.
I have a knee injury after all my weeks in the garden, my happy place, and am trying not to frown about it as I want to be outside but can barely walk right now. Anyhow, I thought it would be wise to try something new while I'm laid up, and took down a book of knitted tea cosies from the craft book shelves, a book purchased more than ten years ago and never used. ;-) Yesterday I knitted a gorgeous tea cosy , then knitted little leaves and a flower to embellish it...it's gorgeous, Julie!! Think the knitting bug may have just bitten...
Have a wonderful week ahead sweet friend. I thank the Lord for you, and am so very grateful for your parcel of love received last week. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Love the kitset finishes, the little scroll is delightful.... funny cats, neither are prepared to concede the seat!

Another lovely post Julie. Your oranges look so good - I can just imagine how good they taste. I love all your new creations but I especially love that tiny snippet roll. It is so wonderful with all the details you have added & will be such a lovely addition to your festive decor. Sarah USA xx
