Rope Bowls, Crafting With Sid & Little One Update

Greetings lovely friends & readers

Yesterday I picked my first vase of Daphne flowers - this brightened my day immensely, it is one of my favorite fragrances.  Then this morning I noticed the first daffodil had burst into bloom in my garden - how wonderful  💛

I subscribe to crafthousemagic on YouTube  and  * this video * popped up a couple of months ago.  It sparked my interest as I remembered I had two hanks of 7 mm cotton cording in my craft cupboard, purchased a couple of years ago now.  I decided to have a go right then & there.  My first bowl turned out great ...I made mine deeper than the one in the video & not as wide in the base.  I cut 1 inch strips of Tilda fabrics & used these in my rows. It was a lot of fun seeing it grow & I was delighted with the shape it turned out.

I decided to fill it with some treaty bits & gift to a dear friend who was due to have a birthday early June.
Wrapped up in cellophane & ribbon it looked wonderful & my friend is finding it useful to store small fabric blocks in.

I decided to make another one for another dear friend whose birthday was early July.  As my friend loves blues & taupes I used a combination of these colours for my strips.  This bowl turned out great too & I did the same .. filled it with special bits & posted it off to her.

My friend has styled hers with a trailing plant in & I think it looks wonderful - I love the raw texture of the bowl paired with the natural houseplant 💚 I am keen to make more of these - they were so enjoyable.

I have had Sid odd days this week & he has also attended a school holiday sports programme.  We did arts & crafts together.
Alec is no longer interested in crafting & makes this quite clear  "I think I'm a bit old for that now Granny".  Well, I said ~ I'm 65 & I still enjoy it!
I am saddened to feel that Sid may soon no longer enjoy this either so I make the most of it while he is still keen.

He made a robot called Bob & some other various "weapons".

I've just realised my blue bird has lost its black beak (!!)

Meanwhile Granny had watched yet-another-YouTube-video & seen how to make these sweet little origami style birds.
* Here * is the video if you are interested ~ it is only 5 minutes long. I am always on the look-out for simple creative projects that might interest my Grandsons but Sid was not keen on making these.  I made mine into a mobile.

Earlier this week we popped into the Salvation Army Op-shop & Sid got a soft toy for $4, & Granny bought the sweet little rabbit egg cup for $2.50.  I made it in to a pincushion with some delightful Peter Rabbit fabric in my stash.  I am thinking about rubbing some dark wax over him to take the gloss off, not sure as yet 😳

This month marks 2 years since The Mr bought Little One home from the farm.  As much as I would love to say otherwise, they still do not get along.  This photo taken last night is about as close as it gets, & just look at that ginger girls face, she is figuring out if she has the energy to run & hiss at him or not.

Here is an example of doing as he pleases ... NO CATS ALLOWED ON THE GOOD BED QUILT!!

I love all my cats but Little One is an entirely different nature altogether.  He is now a teenage boy in Cat Years & like all teenage boys, he knows everything, doesn't listen, does as he pleases, & breaks all the rules (!!)
Believe me, I should know, I have only raised boys.

I have long ago given up hope that they will all get along - it's lucky we adore them all so much that we bow & scrape to them accommodate their different needs 😬

Thank you as always dear friends, for your welcome visits here today,

Sending much love & friendship to you all,

  4. Wow those bowls are something else! I saw a hank of that type of cotton in a shop the other day. Might go back and get it.Time's been called on our crafting sessions too by the older two and the littlest one just loves Lego but too fiddly for me!Preferred the days of Duplo bricks!

  5. I confess I was a little concerned when I saw 'update on Little One', so was relieved to read that he is well and as naughty as ever.
I love your rope bowls - weaving in patterned material was inspired.
My youngest grandchild, Jack, aged 6, loves origami and takes every opportunity to practise it. He also loves painting and drawing and his pictures are wonderful. I hope Sid continues to enjoy crafting - it's such a wonderful outlet for creativity and relaxation.

  6. Well....And yes, all pussy~cats know everything, never listen, do as they
please, & breaks all the rules...All pussy~cats that were ever born, come
    under this banner....and...I~LOVE~THEM~FOR~IT...HeHe! Bless..1 :).

Origami...Yes! I must confess, l still have a bit of talent for it, l can still
make cats, dogs, faces, boats, planes...ooooO! Can l make planes...
HeHe! :0). My Dad taught me to make all sorts of things, and l taught
my daughter a few to...but..l always finished up making them, for her
    and her friends...!
Once again, it has to be said that Sicilian boys are raised very much
like the girls...so...l in fact cook, sow, knit, craft etc..etc...

The cording bowls are lovely...so Julie, your next adventure will be to
make three...(3)...larger cording bowls for three, you know who's, you
can't deny a cording bowl, for each of the furry ones...Bless! xxx

HaHa! As l've always said..."Dogs have owners...Cats have staff". :O).

  8. What a fun "bowling" project. I think this was a win for all. I can see these done in sisal and used as a kitten bowl! Your 3 are too big for that. You'll feel abandoned when Sid stops crafting and you have to do it alone or at one of you crafty get togethers. And flowers already! Makes me feel we are in the same temps now, but I know better with the daffodils, lol. We are having slightly above heat and the humidity is off the charts. I bike at 7:30 am and by 9 I am wiped out and headed home for a shower. Precious is shedding like crazy with brushing and hocking up fur balls left and right. She should be bald! 10. Beautiful bowls and well received, I am sure. Your gifts are always so lovely. Thank you for the photos of Little One - he is such a handsome cat and really is living his best life, despite the occasional hiss and spit from the others (I'm looking at you, Miss Pippi!). It is good that they can all get away from each other.
    Have a lovely week
    Best wishes

  12. What lovely rope bowls, I really like how you added the fabric bits. Sid's robot is just great. All of your cats are just gorgeous, and you can tell they are special to you each in their own way. Little One seems to make himself right at home on your bed.

    God bless.

  13. I love my rope bowl, it is handy to put four patch blocks in. I guess your grandsons are now moving well into the lost childhood zone, due to devices. It always makes me sad. But maybe when they have kids themselves they will craft & op shop with them? So interesting that the cats don't get on after all this time (hard to believe it's been two years!) Quilty hugs from the winterless north.

  15. Just catching up on your recent posts Julie - belated birthday wishes to you!!! Looks like you had a wonderful celebration with your family. Love to see photos of all the cats, but especially Little One - he is a darling. Your rope bowls look so lovely & I hope you do more as I would love to see them. It is HOT here in the USA & we are all wilting. Sarah xx

  16. I'm back - late, but slowly catching up. An infection that keeps cycling between my sinuses and chest, that to date has not responded well to antibiotics, is slowing me somewhat.
Love daphne, but don't have any here - I have a bud on one daffodil - hoping for more, but time will tell.
I understand about the boys - the ragdolls boys here are about 8 in human years, and already are showing 'attitude'...and my older boy (8 chronological years) is totally intolerant - he will allow them one sniff on meeting, and THAT'S IT!!! :).
Your conversion of the egg cup is perfect, Julie, and I love those bowls, and the wee birds - I may just have to spend some time tomorrow looking them up. Thanks so much for the links
    Blessings

  17. Julie, the bowls are beautiful! Honestly, is there anything that you can't do? :) You are amazingly talented! Isn't it funny how the fragrance of some flowers can change your mood. There is a wild shrub that grows along the roadsides here and blooms in early spring. The sweetness fills the air and makes me happy and makes me feel good. Little One is so pretty. Wish he could just fit in with the other sweet ones. We have only Smokey now but remember the days when we also had Bickett and Dumperoo. Three cats in the house can feel like a dozen at times. :)

  18. Great bowls Julie, oh its sad about Alec and crafting with his Nan, hopefully Sid might be different. Your cats are so funny, but we have had our Max the German Shepherd for 10yrs now he was 3 when he came here, and the weirdest dog I have ever met, you would think after 10yrs he would love all the kisses and cuddles we give him, but hell no hehe. Love your origami birds Julie, might check out that link. Oh your fire looks so warm and cosy.

  19. The bowls you have made are wonderful Julie and as you say make great presents. I hope Sid keeps crafting with you for a long time yet. Shame about Alec, but they are all different. I picked my first Daphne today too. smells wonderful. I have 2 plants, one is covered in flowers, the other no sign as yet. ah cats will be cats wont they. I guess Little One is the late comer to the party as far as Miss Pippi and Blackie are concerned.

  20. Hi sweet Julie! Oh, the "umemployed" ones are so cute! It's a shame they don't get along, but at least it keeps things interesting! Ha ha! Your baskets are so great! I love them!

  21. I like your rope bowls, Julie, they would sell well in your craft shop with a pack of pot pouri. Yes, it is disappointing when our lads decide they are too old for the stuff we look forward to doing with them!
