Greetings lovely friends & readers
(Warning ... photo heavy post - long & waffly sorry)
On my table today - beautiful hydrangeas in my Wrendale Jug
I snapped this sunset pic two nights ago from my back deck - just lovely with the cows grazing in the house paddock.
Last weekend my youngest son came & built a new deck on my Cottage. (This is the cottage I used to run as a craft shop - that is another blog post all on it's own).
Though I've forgotten to take a before pic, the deck was very rotten & I'd actually gone through it in two places. I helped Kayne pull up the old timber which came away easily. My son trained as a Builder though he no longer builds but will do odd jobs for cash (& sandwiches) π
At the end of Day 1 it was looking good but he still had the edge to finish & also drill & nail it off properly.
Prior to this being done I'd had to cut all my plants away from the deck in order to make it easier access for Kayne.

| Unoiled Oiled with two coats |
Day two & we have a completion. During the week I've oiled it twice but I'll still give it another coat, maybe two.
I'm thrilled with how it turned out & am reluctant to put back all the old junk treasures that I had on it.
My task for last weekend was to slowly burn all the old deck timber on my rubbish heap, as well as keep Kayne supplied in a steady stream of curried-egg/ham sandwiches & homemade Lemon cordial.
We have had the trees cut up that fell down in * this post *. I now have a large pile of mulch to distribute on my gardens. Does anyone else get as excited about fresh garden mulch as I do??
I must admit though, I wish I could wiggle my nose & the job was done π
The tree men left the huge stump in the ground so The Mr bought home the farm tractor today & lifted it out for me, as well as removing some of the huge timber rings that I could not lift. Gosh it makes life so much easier when you have the heavy-lifting tools to do the job.
Here he is lifting out some of the huge wood rings & here is the stump on the back tray, ready to go to the burning hole at the farm.
It did not take long for a certain golden eyed girl πΊto come check out all the farm smells on the tractor.
During the big storm we had last January our neighbor lost trees that fell over power lines - power was out for over 8 hours while it was repaired. He has slowly been having a large thicket of trees removed along the road verge.
So I was surprised (& delighted) to see them continue down the paddock. For the 25+ years that we have lived here we have looked out onto this large thicket of trees. I would call it a hedgerow but it was many trees planted together, not singular trees. It has never bothered me but now that they are removing them & opening it up - Oh My!!! The light has come in & I can see the stunning Maungatautari Ranges in the distance. You can see the digger working away in my photo & the gap appearing in the right hand pic. This is taken standing on my deck, but zooming in.
Slowly the gap widens. Yesterday they began burning the huge heaps of rubbish, two fires behind the depot yard, which was a bit nerve wracking as it was windy.
This pic was taken just before I sat down to type this post - standing just outside my kitchen door. I cannot explain the Joy that this fills me with, seeing the view across the farmland.
The Mr has told me I am Not to tell the neighbor how happy this has made me as he would be out there replanting the trees in the blink of an eye (our neighbor is a difficult man) π
Some creative projects also happened this past week - I sat in the sun on my deck & painted these two silver dishes that had belonged to my late Mum. I did one in Shabby Pink & the other in Vintage White chalkpaint & then added some decor transfers to them.
They look lovely amongst some of my Easter decor.
You may remember other silver trays of Mums that I painted in * this post *.
I completed an order for 10 applique tea-towels for an old friend/customer. I haven't done these since 2018 when I closed my craft cottage & I'd forgotten how much work they were. Amanda requested 6 golly ones & 4 hen ones ... these are currently in the post on their way to her.
Thank you so much dear friends, if you've stayed through this lengthy post,
With these uncertain times in the world currently, I hope you do find something to smile about in the week ahead.
Sending much love & friendship out to you all,

I love this!! Wow... look at that view. Oh, to see that every single day! How beautiful. The sunset pictures!!! Beautiful and the new deck looks lovely too. I love the trays!!! I wish I was in your country! I LOVE THOSE TEA TOWELS!!! You are so incredibly talented.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a blessed week ahead!
Thank you so much dear Chrissie, Yes the view is wonderful & is making my kitchen so light. Oh I wish you lived in this country too Chrissie ... think of the fun we could have!! Have a lovely week, xx
DeleteJulie, I have smiled through this whole post! It is simply delightful. I could almost envy you the large spaces, but I remind myself how much more comfortable it is for me to have a suburban backyard (small) still full of things I love and can actually manage! I love your white hydrangeas. I have some sweet pink ones I've had for years, but they are certainly not that big and bounteous! And your painted trays are so pretty. I was interested to see your tea towels. I've read about the golly dolls (D. E. Stevenson novels) but never seen one. And what a talented son you have and what a blessing!
ReplyDeleteLovely post. I liked the quote at the end too. Hope you too are happy and smiling.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time to leave your sweet, kind comment. Wishing you a lovely week. xx
DeleteA new deck, a new view, so much goodness in one post Julie. I'm inspired by the trays......
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting on my builder son to construct a floor for my garden shed. I hope it doesn't take as long as my greenhouse (Rome) or it will be known as little Rome.
Thank you Sue - yes the view is wonderful ... I shall not mention it to the neighbor as I am sure he would replant in a hurry if he knew how delighted I was with it all. Hope you get your floor soon Sue. xx
DeleteI just realised I've never told you how much I enjoy your posts, your creativity is amazing, I love to see what you create from so many different things. This is a lovely post, glad the beautiful view is there from your lovely new deck - I had to smile when you said about having heavy lifting tools - I thought - yes and someone else to use them....... Elaine in UK
ReplyDeleteThank you Elaine - that is so kind of you to say. The view is just wonderful & is making my kitchen so much lighter. The heavy lifting tools are certainly amazing - a job that took 5 minutes & probably would have taken me weeks to try & do. Have a lovely week Elaine. xx
DeleteThat view does look stunning! I love your new decking which looks very smart. I am looking forward to seeing it with some treasures in place lol. White hydrangeas are stunning - I used to have one in a pot and loved it so much. The flowers look gorgeous in your jug. The easter trays do look lovely. Have a good week Julie. xx

There was a lot to smile about here, Julie! It's good that Miss Pippi has continued her 'supervision of everything' duties! Your view is really beautiful, as are your painting and sewing projects (as always). We all need positive thoughts with the way things are, so thank you for those.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Julie you must practice reverse psychology on the neighbor, complain about the loss of trees and he'll keep it wide open! The deck looks just great. Wonder you did not get broken bones stepping thru a bad spot or two. And trees falling, well we had 60 MPH wind for 12 hours on Friday and watched safely from inside in the cold, trees falling and uprooting all around our house. Finally by 4 PM our power went out and was off until late Sat. night. So cold, you would have laughed at the layers of clothes I had on including a hooded parka with the hood up. We were so grateful we got power back when we did. Thousands in our state of Ohio are still without. And bitter cold returning tonight for 3 days. And the wind is picking up as I write this. I just crochet and stash my doilies. I am now crocheting mini Easter eggs due to your Easter egg tree. They are slightly bigger than an M&M peanut candy. Hope I can do 3 more and have 6. No crocheting or reading during the outage, hands too cold. Love the furnace when it's on! Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteThat view!!! I agree, complain about the tree loss and the neighbour will do the exact opposite and open your view more.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Oh my , That was allot of work. You now have a lovely view ,
ReplyDeleteWith your talents it will be beautiful. Hugs June.
What a beautiful view with all those trees gone. Though trees are needed, I wonder if he might replant elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteThe deck looks amazing, as does your craft as usual!
Thank you J.J. I am so in love with that view, words can't express how much lighter it is. Yes I love trees too & they certainly do have a place in the world but I also enjoy the light & the views. The neighbor has lots of other groups of trees on his property so I am not sure if he will replant or not. Have a great week J.J.
DeleteHello Julie - gosh you have been busy again with lots going on around your property. I love the trays you have revamped & I have some old discoloured ones here that I may just pull out & do something with. Have a great week, Sarah USA xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sarah. It sure is a busy autumn as we have (I have) quite a few outside projects going on. I hope you are seeing signs of spring there by now Sarah. Have a lovely week. xx
DeleteAnother beautiful post Julie. Lots happening. I'm wondering if I make a batch of sandwiches will youf son come on up yonder for a few jobs? π I'm in several groups, Love Winter, Love Coffee, & Love Mulch! For a few sandwiches I will come & do a few loads of mulch!
ReplyDeleteBusy busy at your place as usual. how lovely to have that view now, amazing difference....
ReplyDeleteHugz
The new deck looks great Julie. What a lovely view from your kitchen. More gorgeous little bunnies. The tea towels are lovely too. x
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, there have been big happenings in your "neck of the woods"! I'll bet that new deck just feels wonderful to walk upon, after falling through the old one on occasion. It looks beautiful! Well worth any amount of sandwiches and cordial, I'm sure, besides the pay. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd getting those stumps and tree remnants removed is another thing to celebrate!
I totally understand how much joy that opened up view must bring. I am all about the views. LOL (and I won't tell your neighbor about how happy you are)
Love what you've done with your Mum's trays. Very sweet.
Hope you will have a lovely Easter, my friend!
So pleased for you Julie that your neighbour has unwittingly opened such a fabulous view for you and made your outlook so much more enjoyable! I had invasive weed around my fence for the last 30 odd years in our tiny garden and at the weekend hubby dug it out with an axe for me and I now have a border to plant herbs in (rosemary and lavender), it made me very happy to get rid of that ugly weed! You are lucky to have son and husband who are so efficient at big heavy work and have the equipment - a tractor! I hope you have a log burner and can keep some wood back for burning in the Winter as sitting in front of a burner in front of that fabulous view on an Autumn evening, burning your own wood, well that would be so perfect. Betty
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning view you now have Julie - what an unintended blessing! I had to smile at you husband's comment though.
ReplyDeleteLove the wee silver trays (?) you have decorated - they are beautiful.
Your new veranda looks lovely, especially with the oil on it.
Oh the joys of farm vehicles for stump and ring moving! You will be pleased that job is now behind you... and moving the mulch will be hard work, but so rewarding.
Blessings
Maxine
My goodness your view is now spectacular! Clever son to make such a lovely deck. Your trays look so pretty and so do those gorgeous hydrangeas x
