Instead of flowers today, we have ornamental Gourds which I picked last weekend. I had a very small crop this year but my seeds were old so I wasn't surprised & just thankful that any came up.
This old round baking tin was in my stash, no doubt thrifted at some time & showing signs of rust. I gave it the Resene Rust FX treatment & it came up well. It was the perfect size to fit under my wire cloche & just big enough to hold my gourds.
Last Easter I purchased a half metre length of gorgeous rabbit fabric with the plan to make Miss Milly Rabbit out of the above (old) pattern book.
The fabric sat in my stash for a year & just prior to this Easter I got it out & made the rabbits body. I enlarged the length of the legs by 3 inches as I wanted a long legged rabbit. I teadyed the calico & I also sewed chenille pipecleaners into her ears when I attached them to the head as I like the ears standing up somewhat - I feel it adds character.
The last time I made this pattern was in * this blog post * way back in 2013.
I added a ring to the back of my Miss Milly as I thought she might look good hanging on a wall - she is a good long length measuring 65 cms from head to toe.

I made sure I fussy cut the bodice piece with the rabbit right in the centre. I also gave my girl some bloomers as we don't want her getting chilly in her nether regions !!

I purchased this swing tag from Love from Seventeen - I've bought their personalised items before to attach to gifts for the Grandchildren. This rabbit motif was in my stash so I gave Miss Milly a pocket so I could stitch the motif to it. I also stitched a vintage lace doiley to her hand as every good rabbit needs a clean handkerchief !

After I'd completed her I decided to paint some shoes on her feet. I had no pastel coloured paint that matched her so I used chalk paint in the colour Robins Egg. It was a wonderful match colour-wise.
It's overcast & grey this week so I've photographed her on my deck table where it's a bit lighter. I'm really pleased with her & have told her she can stay out for awhile longer so long as she behaves herself. 🐰💙

When I went to pack my Easter decor away I came across a bag with these wooden rabbit buttons in & the 3 tiny wood frames. I can't remember how many years I've had these for but it was time to
do something with them!!
I covered the frames with wadding & Tilda scraps, then stitched the rabbit buttons in the centre. I tried to use colours that complimented the buttons. Then I thought I needed something to display them on.

This was one of those vintage frames with the silk pictures in but it was torn & faded so I removed it, painted the frame & backing & then glued some scrapbooking paper to the backing.
I thought the soft blue toile paper just set the rabbit frames off nicely & I had some leftover ribbon from Miss Milly's ears so I added a bow & a rabbit peg. I will enjoy adding this to my displays next Easter.

As I was on hen-feeding-duties over Easter I was able to gather a bucket of feijoas & make my favourite feijoa recipe Feijoa and Coconut Cake. Yes I served it with lashings of cream because Why Ever Not ??!!
Yesterday morning I lit my first fire of the season. It was Cold & I'd spent many days stacking firewood so I told myself that it was not for display only & gave myself permission to Use it!!! It didn't take long for a certain Ginger Princess to find the heat!!!

Seriously though the rabbit is amazing, each little
detail is so lovely, the head, ears, the dress, right down
to the bloomers..! And! Yes! She must have bloomers...! :0).
And she's 65cm..Hang on... Ah! Yes! ....25.5906 inches..HeHe!

About a couple years ago, had a new gas system fitted in my
abode...had to loose my gas fire in the front room, shame
really, l do miss it...so l've been looking for an electric fire
of some sort, just for a little heat, and it must cover the
boarded up gap in the wall, been looking for some kind of
wrought iron finish fire, no luck as yet...!
Well....It's a nice/lovely bright sunny morning, sunshine
through the Paddington Bear curtains, and warm sunny
weather forecast for the rest of the week, and the next,
l managed to cut the grass on Monday, started trimming
the Virginia Creeper yesterday, should finish it off, to~day.
so, it's all "Onwards and Upwards"....! :).
Best get on...Lemon tea called for....Make sure you give
Miss Milly pride of place Julie...She's lovely...Bless..!x
Oh! And make sure she's at the right height, so people can
lift her dress, and see her bloomers...HerHe! :O).

Be sure to tell little one that I like seeing him in the header that you have up now. I really liked how the rabbit turned down especially seeing her sitting on your table outside with her skirt all spread out so we can see it. That little rabbit patch pocket is really cute. And here you are reaping gourds while around here people are waiting for it to get warmed up enough to plant seeds. We've been on an up and down and I see why you've been burning your wood fireplace we had some bitter cold weather. Today it's warm enough I'm going to take a bike ride. You always seem to have some really great books to get Crafting Ideas from. I enjoy looking them at the library but then I never really get around to doing much at home. ReplyDeleteThank you J.J. The problem I have is that she (Pippi) gets "annoyed with me" every time I need to go to put more wood on the fire ... she doesn't understand how I can't just morph it into the firebox without opening the door & freaking her out. I shall have to figure out a way ........ 😉

DeleteMiss Rabbit is delightful and looks so very well dressed - I love her bloomers. Lighting the first fire should be celebrated. We've actually had one day when we didn't need a fire, but we soon decided we needed another one when the temperature dropped again.

ReplyDeleteI wish I had a log burner here (DO miss the one from our old home). It has been very windy today and I have been feeling chilled so have just had to cave in and put the central heating on - can't feel my hands.

DeleteOur wood fire has been going each day now - it seems early this year but the house feels cold without it - these older houses weren't built to the sun & can get chilly. Have a lovely weekend xx
I have just notice Little One in the header - he looks so extremely comfy there! As does Miss Pippi in front of the fire. Your new rabbit is so beautiful and I'm glad to see she has bloomers - they look lovely with the rest of her outfit. I had to look up what a feijoa is - also called a 'pineapple guava' according to Google. The cake looks delicious! The rabbit buttons look perfect in their frames and you can enjoy them every Easter/Spring time now too. I love your creativity!

Miss Milly is delightful, her gorgeous dress and pretty 'shoes'. I do wonder though, do you ask permission for these fabric Ladies to lift their frocks and reveal their undergarments?? Firewood does look nice as decoration, I hope mine doesn't stay a decoration for too long! You have been busy I spot the fresh new header to your blog.

ReplyDeleteMiss. Milly is just perfectly clothed in that fabric, and yes she definitely needed bloomers for the colder weather. Ginger looks quite comfortable by the fire.
