Greetings lovely friends & readers
I spotted the first daffodil in bloom in my garden this week - June (mid winter here) seems very early to me.

| I have a few more photos to share from Retreat, mainly scenery ones. It is situated in such a beautiful spot, between Lake Taupo & Turangi & has lake views from the Retreat itself. I meet up with my dear friend Leeanne who also travels to Retreat & we get to spend special time together including lots of lakeside walks. |
Some of us partake in the swings 😉
I captured some stunning sunsets while we were there.
These photos are taken just outside the Sewing Room looking towards the Lake ... midday Saturday, & then evening. Just such a magical place 💛
I first met Pam on Instagram & although we have corresponded for many years, we had never actually met up. I was very excited to hear that Pam was coming to Retreat & it was wonderful to finally meet her in person - she was every bit as nice as I imagined her to be.
When we were leaving on the Sunday Pam presented both Leeanne & I with a package. It wasn't until much later when I got home that I got to open my package & inside was all the goodies below . . . .

| There were choccies in the bag too but |
Pam had sewn a beautiful patchwork project bag & filled it with a mixture of sewing related goodies - I was truly blown away by her kindness & when I messaged her to thank her she replied that it gives her immense pleasure putting together handmade gifts for people. Thank You so very much Pam - I am still in awe of all my treasures.
The week prior to Retreat I cleaned my sewing machine thoroughly, put in a new needle then packed everything away ready. I needed some projects that didn't require sewing machines.
This wooden trug was a thrifted find & I decided to paint it & fill it with some goodies to gift to Leeanne as we both share June birthdays.
I gave it 3 coats Vintage White chalk paint & then applied a decor transfer as I knew she loved both dahlias & the colour Red.
I painted the handle in a contrasting red, then added some grainsack stripes to give a bit of cohesion.
I had been gathering sewing related supplies for awhile & I wrapped these & filled the trug with them. Leeanne was thrilled with her gift 💗
After my cross stitch post * here * I found * this * free pattern & stitched it up in the called-for threads. I remembered to tea-dye my aida cloth first & not have a repeat of the colours running. I loved the simple primitive look to this design. I found this hexagon design fabric in my stash which I thought went well with the stitchery.
Also in my stash was this thrifted board, light in weight so not a chopping board. I painted it 2 coats linen chalk paint. I really had no idea where I was going with this but carried on anyway . . .
I covered a piece of card in wadding & the hexagon fabric then sewed a pocket in the same & handstitched the stitchery to this. I added some rusty hearts & keys to my piece, tea-dying the lace to match. I put Mums reading glasses in the pocket & a couple of old photos of her. When I was lightly sanding the wooden board I accidentally sanded the edges of the stitchery but I loved that this gave it such a timeworn effect.
I've written before about my "Mum Corner" - her table, canteen of cutlery & some other bits of hers. I tucked my board into the corner along with all my Mum treasures ❤
Pippi is delighted that the Painters finished this week after 6 long weeks. (Her Mother is rather delighted too 😉)
To make her even happier The Mr received a package inside a box that was almost big enough for her to squeeze her ample proportions into !! 😉
Thank you dear friends, for your ever-welcome visits here today,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,

that silly frock" and so on...But! All good fun....! :O).
And...What you've done with the 'thrifted board' is such a great
idea, and sets it off perfectly in Mum's corner.....really nice that..
very artistic and very special of course..Lovely!
Well...The hot weather has dropped a bit over here, temp. down
to the mid 20's and will be for the rest of the week, with rain, and

Hi Julie , another wonderful post of lots of goodies .
ReplyDeleteLooks like your Spring is on it's way .Enjoy every moment , hugs June.
Didn't we have a swell time!! I love my wooden 'pimped' out tray, it's perfect for my long arm tools, thank you xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Leeanne - we sure did! I'm glad you liked the tray I revamped for you. xx
DeleteOur daffodils seem to get earlier and earlier too!. Gorgeous photographs and lovely thoughtful gift from Pam. What a gorgeous addition to your Mum corner, just lovely. Have a happy week getting back to normal after the decorators. xx
ReplyDeleteMiss Pip certainly has the "trying out" part down pat, even if she left a hind leg out! What a great time you had at the retreat. And Pam is a crafty woman after your own heart, as you make so many personalized gifts to share with family and friends. That was a treasure trove to receive. and making your Mum's corner even better than before. Good news the painters are done and gone. Before the snow flies. We have 23 C today and it is sky rocketing to 35 C tomorrow! The 4 month rain stops today too and I figure we will now go into 4 month drought practically over night. The farmers will be glad of the heat and sun this week only as it will dry out the wheat fields so they can finally combine what has not be storm destroyed. I have ridden my bike a few days a week between rains. But I may not go this coming week even at 7:30 AM. Love the daffodil and may you have many more with not too cold. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteI would have been trying out the swing too - I spent lots of time on a swing in the garden when I was a child. In fact, if I had a big enough garden, I would definitely have a swing now. There are some lovely gifts both to and from you. It's so nice to have friends like that. Miss Pip is obviously very happy to have the house back but has Little One recovered from all the disruption yet? I love the pocket you made as part of the Mum corner - what a lovely place for those things.
ReplyDeleteHave a great rest of the week.
Best wishes
Ellie
What a beautiful area to hold a retreat. I possibly would've tried the swing to. :) :) Lovely goodies from Pam. Love the trug & your new Mum decoration. Ahh cats & their boxes. " if i fits i sits" lol.
ReplyDeleteDidn't we have a BLAST! I could have stayed on that swing all day. I love my 'Julie Pimped' wooden tray, it holds my long arm machine tools perfectly and so much prettier than the plastic bin I used to use. Roll on next year my friend xox
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Julie! Pippi is adorable! Looks like a fantastic day with so many great things!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Linda - Pippi is a true Princess in every way!! Lucky I just adore her 😉xx
DeleteHow creative you are! I loved the trug you made and what a lovely way of remembering your mum. How lovely to meet Pam for the first time and what a lovely gift from her.
ReplyDeleteThe retreat looked to be set in such a lovely area.
Thank you so much. It sure was lovely to meet Pam "in real life" & she was just such a wonderful person. Her gift to me was exquisite & I am still in awe of everything. xx
DeleteYour mum table is just precious, along with the lovely gifts you received and gave! <3
ReplyDeleteThank you so much J.J. xx
DeleteBeautiful photos from your retreat Julie, love the gift you received and gave. Great addition to your Mum's corner. Miss Pippi will be a much happier girl now, very considerate of the Mr to get her a new box!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYay, your blog showed up on my feed (still missing others but this is a win?) Great to meet up with an online friend....love the view pictures - what a gorgeous place
ReplyDeleteHugz
I hope you have come home refreshed, full of inspiration for new projects. I love your trug, it's useful, pretty and I want one! These kind of things don't appear often in my part of the world and never painted up as beautifully as yours. I think it's lovely that you swap gifts with your retreat friend, something that we should all do more of perhaps :)
ReplyDeleteYour scenery pictures are gorgeous! How cool you got to meet face to face with someone you've been blogging with. It's been a good number of years since I've had that happen; but always thought it was pretty special to meet with someone you already felt like you knew. Your gifts are very special. Your Mum corner is adorable. You are very creative. Spotted you on a mutual friends blog and thought I'd pop in for a visit. It's always fun to meet new bloggers.
ReplyDeleteJulie, your Mums special corner is special indeed and done with so much love. It was lovely to see you the other day and see your projects from the retreat. Thank you for sharing your birthday cake that the Mr. gave you. It was delectable.Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely time you had down at the retreat! it certainly looks as though you had a lot of joy both in giving and receiving those beautiful gifts!
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the board that you turned into a tribute to your Mum - your wee corner is so special
Blessings
Maxine
What gorgeous scenery at the retreat. I think I would have used the swings as well. Lovely gifts and what great work you did on the board and the trundle.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
