Rabbits, Carrots ......................................... & Teasel Hedgehogs

Greetings lovely friends & readers

Goodness I did not mean to be gone for so long πŸ˜‰ (again!!)

After the two Primitive Rabbits I made in my last Post to give my Grandsons for Easter, I decided to make one for the biggest kid of all ...... Yes - Yours Truly !!

Once again I had an oddment from an old candlewick bedspread.  When I got the name tags made for my Grandsons I also got one made for the actual name of the Rabbit Pattern  - "Wesberry Wabbit"

Of course I had to give her a Tilda scarf πŸ’œ

She is displayed on my old Telephone Table amongst a few Easter decorations & I love looking at her sweet little face.

I think it was on Pinterest that I first saw the idea of taking apart wooden clothes pegs & then gluing them back to back to make into carrots.  I thought the sizing of these would be perfect to go with my little Tilda Rabbits - A free download from Here (scroll nearly down to the bottom of the page)

However - I didn't want bright orange carrots - I wanted more of a salmon pinky colour.  I mixed together some yellow, pink & dark red paints until I was happy with the colour & then painted my carrots.  I used some Dark Green Perle thread for their carrot tops which I hot glued on.

They are just the right size (& colour) to accompany the Tilda Rabbits I am making πŸ’—

I wanted a jug to keep my Easter Egg Picks in ... the one I used last year was pretty but it got broken.  I saw a lovely pastel one Online with flowers on it, but the price tag was $40 plus $9 freight.  $49 for a Jug .... I don't think so πŸ˜•.  I saw the green one above left in Hospice for $3 .... perfect size - wrong colour  ... I painted it with my pale duck egg chalk paint then sanded it ever so lightly.

I applied some oddments of transfers that I had left over & scuffed the edges of my Jug just slightly before waxing it.

Seriously dear friends ... you do Not need to spend alot of money to get what you are after ... just try thinking
outside the square sometimes.

The second hand Bookstore in my local village of Kihikihi has a large cart out front with Free Books written on it.  It is full of hard cover & paperback books & they are All Free !!    I came away with an armload last week as I was more than happy to help her disperse with some books πŸ˜‰.  I removed the dust covers, hot glued 3 of  them together, & then chalk painted them.    I downloaded the Hare Picture free from The Graphics Fairy onto plain photocopy paper

I modpodged the picture onto the books & then cut through each gap individually ... before tying with some twine & faux greenery. I thought it made a very cute Easter display with my mossy rabbit on top.
(I also distress inked the edges of the books to give a time worn look)

There is a really great tutorial here on Julies designs & signs YouTube channel where I got my inspiration for the book bundles.

It is well worth a watch as she explains the whole process very clearly.

Before I sign off dear friends I have had a few emails & comments left lately requesting the pattern for my Teasel Hedgehogs. Unfortunately when you come through as a no-reply-blogger I am unable to contact you to pass it on - so I will insert the instruction sheet here for you to copy off & also if anyone is wanting pictures of the Teasel Hedgehogs then go to this post Here from 2017 ... & there are lots of photos from the class I taught.

Have a lovely rest of the week dear friends

Remember to be kind to yourselves & to each other,

With much love & friendship to You All,

Julie & the furry ones x0x0x

  1. Julie, Wesberry Wabbit is adorable! Her Tilda scarf is so pretty, love that fabric. Love the 'new' jug overspilling with eggs, too. You are so right when you say one doesn't necessarily need a lot of cash to decorate. Your home is looking a treat all decked out for Easter. I can imagine the delight in your grandchildren's faces when they come to visit. The books with the bunny hopping across is fabulous. Such a wonderful idea. Love the rusticity of this.

  2. your home will be gorgeous for Easter Julie, might try that book stack, but will have to use some books with out covers, as most have been made into junk journals, I purchased a fabric bundle on Etsy that has rabbits on it, reminded me of your bunny fabric, I was hoping to make an Easter journal, but still waiting for a few bits of lace to arrive via post, typical Australia Post, hope they werent in a PO Box in the flood zones, think I will give up buying online. Have a great week Julie. Chris xoxo

  10. How very clever Julie with the carrots from clothespeg - I like that idea! and a candlewick bedspread to make into a beautiful bunny, the texture is just perfect! I like the idea of using books in decorations, they would make good doorstops too I think so will keep it in mind. All your creations are delightful. Betty x

  11. Julie, I am not a crafter, but I love seeing your creativity! The projects you undertake with seemingly the greatest of ease just amaze me. Each of your blog entries is like a visit with a warm, wonderful friend. I do look forward to them. I quilt and stitch, but I had never heard of Tilda fabrics until I started reading yours and Jenny of Elephantz’s blogs. What beautiful fabrics. I will keep my eye out for them here in the states. And your Sid just enchants me. I love little boys and have six grandsons of my own, but they are now teens or older, so seeing yours brings happy memories. Keep blogging.....I want tp read more and more from you. Carol in Texas......spring is here in Texas!

    1. Thank You so much for leaving me your sweet kind comment Carol. You've come through as a no-reply blogger so I can't email you to thank you. Yes Tilda are such gorgeous fabric ranges - some of the newer ranges are much brighter & not so much my thing. But the older ranges are just beautiful. I am so pleased spring has arrived there for you Carol - one of my absolute favourite seasons of them all. xx

  13. It was just yesterday that I was thinking that you hadn't posted a new post for awhile. I just had that feeling it had to be soon and there you are you popped up on my blog list :-) Just goes to show someone does think about you on the other side of the world :-) I just love that Wabbit...such personality... it needs to be in a cartoon or something. It is definitely arty LOL! I thoroughly enjoy browsing on pinterest! There are so many things to learn from there. I'm with you on the idea that less expense and more recycling using what you can find or already have in the home. Your jug looks smashing and only $3. The pegs are a great idea too! keep well Amanda x

  14. The green pitcher turned out great with the paint and transfer. I'm betting at $3, it'll last longer than one so much more expensive, so enjoy it. You are well and truly decorated for Easter, and I enjoy the view. The table cloth with the bunnies on it is just right with the pitcher full of eggs. Are Miss Pippi and Blackie in the mood for Easter Bunny to swing by with a treat or two? Lynn and Precious, XX

    1. Thanks so much Lynn - yes the jug was a great find at the Hospice shop. I wasn't even thinking of Jugs when I came across it. The bunny tablecloth is just a length of fabric that I made into a runner last Easter - I loved it so much when I saw it that I bought a metre. I hope you & Precious have a great weekend Lynn xx
