Greetings lovely friends & readers
My dear friend Shirley has just returned from a wonderful 6 week trip to Europe with her son & family. Before she left she asked me if I could please finish some items for her while she was away.
Shirley had sewn the rabbit's whiskers but wasn't happy with how the fine Perle thread was "flopping", so Miss Maggie underwent some cosmetic surgery whereby I applied watered down PVA glue to her whiskers & let them dry really well. This made them stand out & gave her more character.
I am still trying to work my way through my kitsets & get a few more done. This cross stitch kitset was purchased at the Quilt Symposium last October & I thought it wouldn't be too difficult to cross-stitch the small tree sampler. How wrong I was !! I had such difficulty seeing the tiny linen squares & after 3 attempts & 3 unpicks I gave up, as I was damaging the Linen.
I still really wanted to make up the tree so I decided to hand draw a simple alphabet sampler onto the linen with Frixion Pen & then embroider this.
I have a good stash of these vintage spools & I loved that this one still had the label on top & it was red/green colours. I was going to wind some green thread around it but decided to use some vintage music paper instead.
I realise it's far too soon to be thinking about Christmas but it was just a case of the next easy kitset to get completed. This has been tucked away with other decorations for now.
Another simple kitset that I thought would not be too labour intensive was this scissor keep from Sew Sweet Violet. This was purchased when she closed her online store & she no longer does YouTube videos (sadly) but does do the paid Patreon Channel. This was in Liberty fabrics & came complete with the Merchant & Mills scissors.
I planted out my sweet pea seedling pots this week so thought I'd better get on & make some more as I have other seeds I wish to grow next month. As I've mentioned before, the cutting out takes longer than the sewing up - I made another 15 (one is missing!! I blame that littlest cat !!)
I thought I should let you know that Blackie has moved on from the clothes dryer & is now sleeping in the bottom of the craft cupboard, Little One is camped out, right outside the door, waiting for Blackie to exit .. & Madam Pip is down in the hospital corner, but No - she's not unwell, just living the life-of-luxury catching the sun's rays.
Thank you as always, for your welcome visits here today,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,
Beautiful orchids and Miss Maggie looks splendid.
ReplyDeleteJulie your orchids are beautiful. Miss Maggie looks lovely. Love her cape and boots. The Christmas creations will be perfect for the season.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandy. Yes the orchids are doing well although I have another indoor moth orchid (white) & not one single bud on it this year - it's having a year off!! xx
DeleteI totally enjoyed my visit to your blog. Your creations are wonderful and so adorably unique.
ReplyDeleteIts obviously you brought Shirley’s projects to life from Miss Maggie Rabbit’s whiskers to the Christmas tree sampler. The mix of crafting, vintage finds, and your playful cats makes it feel cozy and personal. Beautifully shared
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend my friend
Thank you so much Asep. That is very kind of you to say.
DeleteI'm amazed Miss Maggie made it to Shirley's home, Julie. =) She is very sweet. The Christmas tree is a lovely finish and the alphabet is a pretty touch. You are certainly making progress with your kitsets. Christmas will be here before we know it, and you, lovely Julie, will be well prepared. I planted sweet pea seedlings this week. I can't wait to once again smell the sweet scents of sweet peas.
ReplyDeleteTwo great finishes for your friend, she must be very happy. The little tree is adorable and such pretty fabric for your scissor keep. xx
ReplyDeleteSome lovely projects there and no wonder your friend was so delighted with her finished items. You gave the little Christmas tree its own identity and originality and it will be a super addition to your Christmas decorations. I can't believe Little One has taken your seed pot - except that they do look very squishy and would no doubt be nice to play with if you were a cat! You may find it squirreled away somewhere...I love the cat photos, as always.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
Best wishes
Ellie

I believe you are having a second heatwave Willy, how are you coping? I was in the UK in the first heatwave beginning July, my word it was so hot.I was carrying bottles of water all the time. And, UK doesn't have air conditioning!!!??? The underground and the tube trains were a killer with no air con.!!
DeleteHello Shirley....Yes! It is a bit, and we are going through yet
Deleteanother heatwave...up until Tuesday, then rain storms are
forecast for the rest of the week...Heaven knows the gardens
need it, the grass is a total colour of brown, not a green blade
in sight...l'm even using washing up liquid for the plants, out
doors...!
Ah! So...You came over to the UK...You never came to say
hello...HeHe! :). Bless! :).
I have'nt been on a train in years, yet l always liked them,
always watch Portillo's train journeys on TV...great fun....! :).
HeHe! What's air conditioning...???
Nicehearing from you...Take care..God bless..!
I just love the boots on Miss Maggie Rabbit. Little details like that really appeal to me, just like the music on the cotton spool. Liberty fabrics are really special and your scissor keep is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteJulie, I will remember the stiffing trick for whiskers next time I am crocheting an animal and I have no idea how to make ones stand up. I keep a bottle of Stiff Stuff for crochet items so I can use it. The dress on the rabbit is a bit Autumn color and I like it a lot as our hottest ever summer may wind down starting tomorrow for sure. And that brings oranges and yellows. It was very good of you to finish off one and make the other for your friend. I am sure she is more than happy with them both and will enjoy seeing them. Love the orchards. And of course the kitties. The Mr. is now wondering why he pandered to Blackie who has moved on, lol. I'm up to 79 butterflies and the pumpkin sounded like a plan but here pumpkins are not ripe until October and I pray by then the other 2 dozen or so caterpillars are flown to Mexico for the winter, lol. Have a great week, as your weekend is running down. Lynn and Precious XX

Thank you so much dear Pili. xx
DeleteDear Julie, thank you so much for my beautiful Maggie and the christmas angel. I have the angel hanging despite it's not christmas yet but she is so beautiful she needs to be on show . Maggie is sitting in a chair very happy and looking gorgeous. Thank you so much for giving them life. I am now back in the land of living from my UK, Europe trip, jetlag is a real "thing". It certainly got me. I loved my trip but so good to be home.Love catching up with your furry friends antics. Those seedling pots are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLovely orchids, you have definitely got a green thumb for these. How nice of you to finish those projects for your friend while she was traveling.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You are Shirley's fairy godmother! Beautiful finishes and the sweet rabbit didn't even need Botox for her cosmetic surgery! Your orchids look AMAZING! We have the brown one growing wild in our garden, although it flowers the slugs and snails enjoy a good feast on them. The Grinch has confirmed you must be turning to his side due to the size of that Christmas tree :)) I finished a certain quilt that does NOT have rabbits even though The Grinch said they were rabbits, I decided my sewing machine & table needed a good clean....my goodness I do not need anymore bits & pieces to pick up & dust under! I hope the coming week is a fabulous one my friend xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love all your makes this week... just gorgeous and how lovely of you to finish off your friends items. I do love that Christmas tree and I was recently given some old spools so hopefully I remember that idea....
ReplyDeleteHugz
Wow , again a lovely post of home made goodies . you are very creative , enjoy a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteHugs June.
your crafts are truly delightful this week Julie. I confess that although I dried some herbs to make the moth repel bags, I didn't have anything like enough to make it worthwhile so have not progressed! However, I am constantly inspired by your crafts and am sure I will complete something worthy eventually :) aren't cats good at finding the best sunspot, I always let Mollie lead me to hers, we both love sunbathing together. Betty
ReplyDeleteOh that bunny is so cute, and I agree, the Liberty fabric is beautiful. You have amassed so many skills in life, Julie, and I always learn something new from you - like the watered down PVA glue for stiffening the whiskers. Clever!
ReplyDeleteBless your kitties....always makes me laugh to see their antics.
Love and blessings
Jennifer
Such a sweet bunny Shirley made, great idea with the whiskers Julie, and you know its never to early to think about Christmas, the way the year is flying by, it will be here before you know it:-) Love your tree.
ReplyDeleteI am somewhat behind in commenting, but here goes - loving your 'finishes' for Shirley. Mrs Rabbit is beautiful, and I love her stronger whiskers.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that you felt you were damaging the linen with your restitching - linen is virtually indestructible, but I hear you about fine stitching - I am now using a magnifying lamp for very fine work.... I love your alternate alphabet and how you finished the final product :)
Your orchids are beautiful - my granddaughter's moth orchid is flowering, against the odds, but all mine are sulking after the various moves, not only to the new house, but also around various spots in my rooms before I had my shelves put in and could place them where I thought they would like it. At least they are now putting out new growth.
Your scissors keep is so pretty and practical - a great wee project.
Well done on your pots and sweetpeas being ready for planting - I hope you get a wonderful display
Blessings
Maxine
Very nice of you to help Shirley out and finish her projects Julie, they both look wonderful. Lovely flowers on the orchids, I bought 4 pots, two flowering orchids (the big ones) and two other pots with loads of buds on them, from a local Greek ( I think) lady who LOVES orchids but is moving back to Melbourne. She is selling more in October so will have to look out for her signs. Not that I need more but I find them hard to resist. Lovely tree and pincushion projects and always good to see what all the furry ones are up to!! Hope your seeds all grow well.
