Greetings lovely friends & readers
Welcome to Spring - you old favorite of mine ๐ค
And we have definitely been having Spring Weather here this past week - four seasons in one day - classic Spring weather.
Last Sunday marked the two year anniversary since Mum passed away & I gathered together all her favorites ... Orchids, daffodils, lavender scented candles, & played her favorite songs all day. I still find it hard to believe she is no longer here.
I have finished some Christmas Gift Sewing for my Step Grand-daughters, Sadie & Juno. I have crossed out "the C word" so you don't all yell at me that "it's far too early yet Julie, to mention that word!!" ๐
I purchased this book for Sadie & then remembered the doll set I made for my friend Jane back in * this post * in 2019.. I asked Jane if she still had the pattern & she very kindly posted it to me. It is Goldilocks & the three bears by Two Brown Birds designs.
The doll was tricky to make, the bears were simple. I ended up remaking the dolls legs longer as they were so short they barely peeked out from her dress. I didn't want to shorten the dress as it needed room for the pocket.
I'm pleased I lengthened the legs as she looks much more in proportion now. The small & the medium bears both fit in the pocket.
I decided Sadie needed a drawstring bag to keep the set in so I sewed this lined bag using fabrics already in my stash. This entire set was made using fabrics I had - the only item I needed to purchase was the maroon drawstring cord for the bag.
Sadie is now 3 - I am hoping she gets lots of pleasure playing with her set.
Juno is now nearly 6 ... I purchased this fairy from a local friend who makes dolls & sells online under the name
Little Haboo. I like to support small business's & I thought this wee fairy was adorable with her glittery wand. The fairy Princess book kept to the theme.
The fairy came with her own box, beautifully decorated, & a mattress, but I made the wee quilt as I knew Juno would want to tuck her fairy in.
Here is the gorgeous box the fairy came in.
I felt Juno needed her own drawstring bag to keep her set in as well - once again sewn using fabrics already in my stash.
If Juno doesn't like her Fairy doll then I know a rather-grown-up-65-year-old-"girl" who would be more than happy to play with it ๐
My friend Jane had given me this cross stitch about 10 years ago now, it had been attached to some calico but was very worn. Although I'd used it in displays, I'd never made it up in to anything. I unpicked the calico & gently washed the cross stitch piece.
Using some coordinating Tilda Fabrics from my stash I bordered & backed the piece & then filled it with crushed walnut shells. It looks so pretty sitting in one of my displays.
I have had much unwanted help & supervision this past week, as I work on crafty pursuits. Miss Pip very kindly oversaw the painting of some containers during the week ... then Little One kindly sat & pressed the piece of fabric I was trying to sewing ๐. I do not know how I manage without their help sometimes (!!) ๐
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead dear friends - remember to be kind to yourselves & to each other.
Sending much love & friendship to you all,
My goodness Julie! Beautiful gifts you have kindly made for the little girls. Your cross stitch revamp is soo pretty ๐ฉท

The prezzies for Juno and Sadie look lovely Julie...so sweet
and cuddly....they'll really love and treasure those, l know l

Goldilocks and the three bears, goodness! I thought by now,

HeHe! And, l've still got some 200+ Ladybird books l bought for
my daughter in her growing up...! Some worth money now!
Nice the see the furry ones are still of some help...Where would
you be without them Julie...I suppose, you know who, is asleep
in the washing machine, waiting for a quick spin..HeHe! Bless
him...!x
Best get on, off up to the supermarket shortly, another fine sunny
day, after all that rain, and all the grass has gone back to it's
usual colour of green...! :O).

Lucky lucky little girls to get such heart felt gifts made with love xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh Julie, what beautiful gifts you have made... there will be two very excited wee girls come Christmas day!!
ReplyDeleteWe are slower with spring than you, but my daffodils are now almost in full bloom, which is very gratifying. My azaleas are covered with newspaper at the moment as we are supposed to get a 0 degree frost in the morning... the joys of spring.
So pleased to see your wonderful feline supervisors and helpers... mine has retreated to a sheepskin on the rocking chair and looks at me in distain if I start doing anything, with a look that says, 'if you must mess around, keep it quiet, please!!'
He will not be pleased when I have a visitor tomorrow morning, as that is the chair she needs to use... I will need to shake the sheepskin before she arrives.
Blessings

Absolutely gorgeous gifts. I miss the 'model's days. I just gave away all our Sylvanian Family stuff to my great niece because it had become defunct! Now it's all about hair, nails, make-up! The boy grandchild adores anything Barman or Transformers!!
ReplyDelete*little days, not model's! Stupid Kindle spell!
DeleteSadie and Juno will be delighted with their gifts. What a lot of thought and work goes into your creations, Julie. Lovely work!
ReplyDeleteSending sympathy to you - my mum died around the same time, so I know what it is like. That two years seems to have gone quickly. Those are two very lucky girls - what super gifts. Ooh, Little One - you know I am his biggest fan! That's really kind of the cats to help you as they do! Our last cat, Scruffy, used to do the same and I still expect him to come and sit on whatever I'm trying to do. They do leave a big hole in the family when they are no longer with us, but give us such joy while they are.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
Best wishes
Ellie
Of course, you must call them Christmas gifts! The time spent planning and making in time for the holidays sometimes flies by to quickly. How I remember the story of the 3 bears! These are so cute, tell the girls they can regift them back to you when they grow tired of them or simply get too old for them. And what a sweet way to think of your Mum with all the things you know she enjoyed, as you do too. We are in the drought for sure now and it is 5 C this morn and to be for the next 2 morns. But then summer heat back with the dry for the 10 days after that! Nuts! I'm down to 9 caterpillars!! Hallelujah. 104 butterflies so far but 2 dozen parasited. And 30 chrysalis hanging. Nuts, again, lol. Enjoy Spring and thinking of Christmas. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteThose little sets are totally adorable in their special bags with books... what lovely gifts Julie

Well looks like you did a fabulous job on Goldilocks Julie, what a sweet gift for a three year old, and the fairy looks so cute tucked into the box with her quilt, and I love the drawstring bags you made for them to be kept in.
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful sets with their books Julie, they will be lovely presents. I think it is far too soon for the C word thankyou!!! Your cat helpers gave me a smile today. Can't believe it is 2 years since your Mum passed!!
