Greetings lovely friends & readers
On my bench today, my first pick of Sweetpeas. Growing these from seeds & getting them to the flowering stage has felt at times, like extracting teeth - it seems to have been a VeRy long process this year.
I am still dehydrating oranges to fill my last potpourri orders, so I strung a garland of them along the rake in my kitchen as well as refreshing the oranges on my faux tree, that sits at the end of my bench.
Long time readers may remember back in * this post * when I made these little Country Friends dolls for my friend Claire, to fit in a Pringles tin. I'd cut out a set for myself at the same time & finally got around to dressing them & making them into a swag.
I managed to use fabrics & felt scraps already in my stash as they only require very small pieces.
I've shown this guy photographed beside a small teaspoon to show how tiny they actually are. VeRy fiddly to make.
I've strung mine across the shelf that holds my red china, in the lounge room as the colours all went well together.
This pair of doll shoes was in my sewing room - they measure 12 cms along the length of the heel so are either large dolls or small childs shoes. I wanted to take the shiny-ness off them & googled it - it said to rub them with nail varnish remover, which I tried. This did not a thing, so I lightly sanded them to dull them a bit.
I love small vintage shoes decorated at Christmas time & have several on my Pinterest boards. I glued some offcuts of Oasis in the bases & then simply jammed a selection of things in.
A small teddy that came off a keyring, some greenery & pip berries, a couple of Christmas ornaments with the hooks removed & the smallest size bottlebrush tree that I had. I love how these turned out 🎄💚
This white linen doll was in a wardrobe ... I remember making her about 10 years ago now. I wanted to do a small festive display on my bed & thought if I made her some red wings, she could pass as Christmassy.
I cut into some of my Tilda fabrics as the red shade was perfect - I'm really pleased with how she looks now.
(She is a Rosalie Quinlan Angel - Friendship Angel pattern, very old now but still available I think)
Remember back in October in this post when I made this Pixie/Elf - he is a free pattern from shabby art boutique
This wooden trolley cart was $4 from my local SPCA shop, purchased during the winter months. I painted it, lightly distressed it, & glued a piece of scrapbooking paper onto the tray part. Even the red cord was able to be used again.
I found a couple of offcuts of transfers that were festive looking & applied these to 2 sides. I thought it would make the perfect "vessel" to sit my Christmas Elf in.
I thought long & hard about what else to put in my cart - what would a busy elf need?? Some presents to deliver or help with ... & perhaps a spare pair of elf boots for when his get worn out ?? I covered tiny boxes in fabric as I couldn't find any wrapping paper in the right colour way & then I made some simple elf boots from scraps of grey felt.
I'm thrilled with him - he doesn't stay on my deck table, I've just photographed him out there as its dull inside the house today. I must say he looks very happy sitting in his trolley cart 😊
I give my Grandsons a selection of choccy treats in their stockings each year. I thought I'd like to make them a simple drawstring bag to contain all their edible treats this year. This was very much about using-up-what-I-had-on-hand & I didn't want to purchase anything, apart from the treats themselves.
I was pleased how the bags turned out & I even managed to line them with some other festive fabric I had in my stash.
I banged into an old acquaintance in the Supermarket carpark last week & she asked me what I'd been up to recently? I explained that I'd decorated the house & been hosting some folk to look at my festivities including my craft group etc. She commented did I not think this was all a waste of time & energy when I could be doing other stuff ??
I didn't agree with her - we both agreed to differ ... but I felt it was timely when I came home & saw this verse online & it just kind of put into words how I was feeling. I hope you enjoy it dear friends.
Thank you as always dear friends, for your welcome visits here today,
I shall be back soon with Part two as this post was more than long enough,
Sending much love & friendship out to you all,

DeleteI love that verse Julie, oh so true and I shall remember it the next time I hover over something gorgeous, dithering over wether to have or not! The sweet peas are such gorgeous colours and well worth persevereing for. Love all your beautiful makes - the shoes are a gorgeous idea and the swag of little figures is perfect for your cabinet. I am looking forward to part two! xx
ReplyDeleteSweet peas , I love them ,
ReplyDeleteAlso love all your Christmas decs .
Every thing looks wonderful .
Happy Christmas , hugs June.
Amen to that - we all need to find joy in what can seem a pretty dismal world sometimes. The little things that bring us that are so important. I may have mentioned it before but Ingrid Fetell Lee has a really good Youtube TED talk on Joy (and a book, which I really must read!), which is well worth a watch and is about ten minutes long. There's a reason people come and go out of our lives, or are just acquaintances - we tend to keep the ones that are in 'our tribe'! Your Christmas Crafting is a delight in itself - everything is so beautifully made and the gifts will be received with such happiness.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful craft and joy-filled week!
Best wishes
Ellie
You always amaze me with all of the beautiful things you make, and how much pleasure and joy they bring to you. That verse is so correct. People say I must have too much time, because of what I get up to. I feel sorry for them and I'm not put off by their comments. Keep creating your magic Julie, we all need some on a daily :-)

Enjoy your lemon tea Willie and may you have a wonderful build up to your festive season.I too loved the word of advice that Julie inserted and wholeheartedly agree. I have sent Julie a couple of choice words of the day lately that are very befitting but they are not for public display, they are a giggle, to the point, and deliciously bad words!!!

What a lovely, uplifting post, Julie. You make all your craft work sound so easy, and yet I know how much work goes into every project. Just delightful! Your final piece is perfect - let's never be too adult and lose our childlike wonder at the world.
ReplyDeleteJulie, if you did not do all this crafting and sewing and decorating, where would I go to see so much fun! Your acquaintance would try to convince you to cease crafting! I'm telling myself, as I wait for 5 inches of snow to start, that your sweet pea flowers came from a florist, not actually outside growing and blooming now, lol. I enjoy all things doll, so your sweet crafted dolls of all sorts are fun. I walk through the toy dept of the box store every time I go in for supplies. Some toys are simply ugly but so colorful. Keep the fan running and sweat a drop or two for me, only we women only perspire, not sweat. Count down the Christmas day. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteYour creations are just beautiful Julie. I am in awe of them all. That verse at the end I have printed to put on my fridge - I think we need reminders of this all year long. Thanks for sharing it. Sarah USA xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sarah. Yes that verse came along at just the perfect time for me. I have printed it off also. xx
DeleteOh dear, your humbug 'friend' needs to visit your lovely home and wander through each room looking at all the gorgeousness you have fashioned; perhaps a little joy will rub off on her. Keep on spreading your delightful-ness, dear Julie. Those shoes are fabulous and doesn't Elf look grand sitting in the wagon. It's always a happy day when one visits your lovely place, lovely Julie.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Julie. I'd love to visit to take a wander through & see your beautiful decorations. Always a joy to read your posts. I think i'll print that verse out & put it on my fridge or somewhere where i'll see it everyday. :)
ReplyDeleteOh gosh you have made some gorgeous items, love the wee dolls and those shoes, you do find fun stuff. What an odd thing for your old aquaintance to say - clearly not a crafter!
ReplyDeleteHugz
You have the best talent in making things just perfect for decor. I always love to visit and see what you have crafted.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Love all that you have made Julie, the little shoes are adorable, good for you for disagreeing with your old acquaintance, personally I think the whole world is going mad, so we all need a little softness , great verse.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see Christmas crafts. What a cute way to use those shoes.
ReplyDeleteI mean, you spend your time doing things that bring you joy! I love seeing your creations even though I have 0 desire to be creative in that manner. Not a waste of your time whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much JJ. I agree with you! xx
DeleteThat is beautiful Julie, love the little people. Humbug to whoever says decorating is a waste of energy and time, oh dear.
ReplyDeleteWow. You do the most beautiful displays and decorating. Your home looks like it could a shop. Enjoy everything you do
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I love everything so much I don't even no where to start. I can SMELL those sweet peas lol! The shoes are beyond adorable...sighing out loud here. And those sweet little swag people....gorgeous! The little wagon is just perfect for that cuter than cute elf. Sweet treat bags too.
ReplyDeleteI 200% agree....life is way too short not to partake of all those small joys that make your heart sing....many don't get the opportunity! I was once asked why I kept making quilts. That silliness didn't deserve an answer lol! All the gorgeousness you share Julie brings so much joy....so thank you xxxx
Another wonderful crafty talent filled post Julie - love that last photo, it is so true! I recently bought a teddy bear just because I saw it and though I like that I am having it!!
