Greetings lovely friends & readers &
Welcome to February ๐
I did not mean to be gone for so long but we have had a houseful of bugs these past weeks (the ๐คฎ๐คข kind & not the ๐๐ kind) In the midst of this The Mr came down with Covid !! But we are all well again now.
I decided to do a short January recap ... school has returned here in New Zealand after more than 6 weeks break & I, along with the parents, breathed a sigh of relief. As Alec went back earlier than Sid I drove to Taupo during the last week to spend a bit more time with him.
Our flowers today are a bunch that I took to my daughter in law, picked from my garden, mainly dahlias & hydrangeas.

| As I had no potatoes left I made mashed kumara for the Cottage Pie topping. |
Alec & my son requested my homemade Cottage Pie so I made two, one for The Mr while I was away. I also made fruity chocolate cereal bars which makes up in a large meat dish so you get a good quantity out of it. You can find the recipe at the bottom of * this * post. (its an old recipe of my Mums)
Alec requested we go mini putt golfing again as he enjoyed it so much last time & I was happy to oblige. It is such a gorgeous Putting Green with stunning lake views at every angle. Alec beat me by 9 points but I am sure there was cheating score adjustment going on ๐
We went to our favorite cafe for lunch, Baked With Love. We even had the same food we ate last time & now we call this cafe "our regular".
Right next door is a huge wonderful kitchen store & I wanted to hunt for a new mug as mine had cracked. I found this lovely Jamie Oliver mug which I really love & it's so nice to drink out of.
I took Alec for a haircut & parked right outside the Salvation Army Op-shop. I told him I had a moral obligation to go inside - he chose to wait in the car. My only purchase was this heavy crystal bud vase for $5. It's just perfect for a few rose buds & I'm delighted with it.
Two days after I got home the craft girls invited me to go with them to Tauranga to Paint Me Vintage. It's many years since I've visited this gorgeous store & it was just as impressive as I remembered. So much loveliness in every nook & cranny.
I'll share my purchases in my next post as I have (hopefully) done something with them by then. We had a wonderful day out & stopped in at the huge Tauranga Crossing Shopping Centre for lunch & a wander. This was the first time I had been here & it was most impressive.

| The lights have 8 different settings but I prefer them just On, not flickering. |
I purchased (from Temu) some plug in fairy lights - I'd wanted some for my kitchen for a very long time but could only get a 12 metre length so I ended up affixing them a lot further around my kitchen than I'd anticipated.
I just LoVe them - as my kitchen can be on the darker side, I turn them on frequently. I purchased the proper clips to attach them & then ended up giving all my enamel-ware, shelves etc a full on clean, which took me two entire days but everything just sparkled afterwards. It's funny how this simple $14 purchase can bring me so much Joy.
I'd left two baskets on my sewing room floor when I went to Taupo & upon my return The Mr had lifted them onto my bench for a certain two furry beings to sleep in. They started out in separate baskets but after Day 1 Miss Pippi climbed in with Blackie.
![]() |
| Also note they have both moved to the square shaped basket which is slightly larger |
Day two was a nasty-weather-day & they were still in the same basket even though there was very little room (!!)
![]() |
| Day 3 they'd both moved back to the round shaped basket |
Day Three she had managed to secure herself a bit more room. Willie this might be a good one for your Cat Folder. By Day 4 the Mother here (Yours Truly) had removed both baskets, cleaned the bench & banned furry beings from sewing room (they are taking no notice) ๐
Thank you so much for your visits today dear friends & for listening to my waffle,
Wishing you a wonderful rest-of-the-week,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,

ReplyDeleteThank you so much dear Sandy - you are right about those two furry family members ๐ธ๐xx
DeleteI love the photo with Ms Pippi having a stretch.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue. She just loves being tucked up with him - I don't think he shares this Joy but he "tolerates her". xx
DeleteSorry to hear you have both been unwell but glad you are over it all now. The trip to the Vintage shop looks like great fun - so much to look atand buy! Great cat pictures and I love the bud vase. xx
ReplyDeleteHeHe! I'm way ahead of you Julie...The photos have been
ReplyDelete'copied and pasted' into my pussy~cat folder...HeHe! Bless!
And...I may well share them with a few friends around the
planet...! :).
Covid...? Goodness! Yes! It's still around over here to....Can't
believe it..? Asking after a friend or neighbour...
"Oh! They've got Covid, laid up for a few days"....Well! Well! Well! :(
Hasn't come near me..Nope! Must be 'ALL' the garlic l eat...But then,
with all the garlic l eat...Nothing comes near me...HeHe! :O).
Perhaps it's gonna stay about now...like the common cold...! :(
Very impressed with the putting green, very nice that, we've got one in
the next big town to me, in a large park, but that one is just flat, and
very boring...l used to take my daughter there as a child, goodness!
That's some forty years ago...She turned fifty last week...Fifty? Fifty? :O).
Oh! And l love that little store...I'd spend hours in a place like that, look
forward to seeing what you bought next time...!
Had a good week, last week, despite the rain...having a good week this week,
despite the rain...'SO' Despite the rain...I'm having a good week....!
"And the lord said unto Moses...Come forth, Come forth..and he came fifth
and lost his beer money"....! :O).

Dear Julie
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you have both been poorly but hopefully you are both fully recovered. I had covid last autumn - it is still out there and making itself known, isn't it? It looks as though Alec had a great time with you. I would have loved to look round that shop - it looks great. Your fairy lights are lovely and make everything look so special. Oh, the cats, looking so sweet all curled up together. (But where is Little One?!!)
Have a lovely week
Best wishes
Ellie
All sorts of stuff going around over here. Not a week goes by that somebody goes down with some virus or other. In the past, the worst you could be unlucky enough to catch would be a bad winter cold! Might have to copy your fairy light trick!xx
ReplyDeleteSuch fun, first sickness to get over and then a lovely drive and visit with Alec. Nice game of golf you two had. And I get to see real live fresh home grown flowers instead of white on white on white, lol. You made me hungry with your photos of baked goods. Bet those where big hits with family. I'd love to see a gift shop like that. I never see any now days. I do remember them from 20 or 30 years ago. Amazon is a mean business to owners. The kitties look comfy and I'm sure they did not catch the human bugs. Can't wait to see what you bought and if the paint brush was involved. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're all feeling better now. I love the concept of 'score adjustment.' You found a lovely bargain with your bud vase and some beautiful roses to grace it.
ReplyDeleteOh, the yucky bugs are no fun!!!! Glad all is better. I love having a "regular cafe" and I love the name of the one you went to. Baked with Love!!! How sweet. Those cats!! So precious!!!! I love the vase and mug too!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Chrissy. Yes we are all well again thank goodness. The cafe is just delightful, both the food & the ambience. Happy Thursday to you Chrissie xx
DeleteI am sorry that you and your Hubby were ill, but I am so glad to read that you are both so much better. Score adjustment is a wonderful way of putting it.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I'm pleased the bugs have all evacuated your home. Baked With Love IS a fabulous cafe, I always want one of everything because it looks soooo pretty! I think the OpShop Police would be knocking on your door if they'd heard you'd not done your rounds? :) Oh the cats...I'm laughing, I shall NOT show the cat lover in my household.
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone is feeling better. Cats and baskets! LOL
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're much better now. Of course you had to go into the Salvos! I love the fairy lights in your kitchen. I love the photos of the cats in the baskets. They are so cute. Well, I've finally caught up on all your news Julie. :) xx
ReplyDeleteGlad the Mr is better.... looking forward to seeing what you make with your finds... love the cat in the basket pictures....
ReplyDeleteHugz
Oh my gosh, your post made me smile so much! Between the bugs, the mini putt victory (or “cheating”), and those sneaky basket-stealing fur babies, it sounds like your house is never boring. Hope your weekend is as cozy and sparkly as your kitchen lights!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Melody, for taking the time to leave me your sweet, kind comment. Wishing you a lovely weekend too. xx
DeleteOh Julie, I just LOVE your waffles!! Always share them, and know we love visiting inside your life...and oh my gosh, what deliciousness, and fun, you had with your grandson!!
ReplyDeleteThe two cats in the basket are adorable. The bouquet from your garden gave me smiles.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Terra - yes those cats do make me smile. xx
DeleteMy garden does not yield such a lovely, colorful bouquet as that.
ReplyDeleteI'd mini golf a whole lot more, for that view, but you might want to do the score keeping going forward!
Great finds with the mug and the vase. I got a chuckle out of Alec waiting in the car instead of visiting the op-shop. He doesn't yet understand what he is missing.
Love the fairy lights in the kitchen. I have a dark corner in mine, and now you have me pondering if fairy lights can solve it. How did you attach yours?
Your furry family members are a hoot! I laughed so much at your photos.
I hope you have a good week!
It's crazy isn't it - we don't expect to get *bugs* at this time of the year. It looks like you had a fabulous time in Taupo - it is a great place to visit! Give those cats an inch and they take a mile! So nice that they love to curl up together - I'm still waiting for our two to do that.
