Greetings lovely friends & readers π
I hope these February days find you well ??
I picked the last of the sweet peas this morning - all that are left are seed pods which I will let dry & save some. With the heat & the drought that we are experiencing, many things are bolting to seed early.
Some of you have asked how my little hothouse is doing ... the tomatoes are now right up to the roof & trying to push through. I trimmed them after I took this photo as I would prefer they put their energy into producing lower down. I pick as soon as they show some red & then put them on my deck railing where they quickly ripen in the sun.
This is todays pickings, although the cucumbers are growing in the veggie garden, everything else is from the hothouse.
I tipped out my potted petunias last week as they'd gone leggy. I scrubbed the table & gave it a nice new length of hessian from Spotlight. I attempted a simple display with some butterfly Impatiens I had purchased & planted in my old urn. A friend commented it looked "a bit Valentines-ish" though this wasn't my aim at all.
This concrete Lady Urn belonged to Mum. I found it in my garden & the head had broken off, so I glued it back on using concrete glue where the blue arrow is. I then gave it my usual Rust FX treatment & was delighted with how it came up - all rusty & antique looking. The artificial vine is a thrifted find, I pulled it out of the polystyrene pot that it was in & poked it in the urn.
I needed a coloured taper candle to put in the rusty candlestick that I revamped in * this post *.. I only had a white candle so I painted it with mod-podge & then carefully wrapped part of a paper serviette around it. Once dry I sealed it again with mod-podge.
Using up the remnants of French General fabrics after the cushions I made in my last post, I made a hexie hot-water bottle cover using a pattern by Sew Sweet Violet. Although it feels like a very long time before I will be needing to use this, I was really happy with how it looks sitting on my bed on Mums pink Mohair throw.
Jooles (sew sweet violet) used linen on the back of hers but I decided to use up this gorgeous piece of raspberry coloured chenille that I found in my stash - so soft & cuddly. The cover has a nice soft wadding inside & is also fully lined.
Many of you commented in my last post "no cat on the bed??". Well this is what I find most nights when I go to get into bed ... Little One top left. And I thought I'd share this photo of Blackie's latest sleeping place. He has taken up residence in the big old water pump that sits in my garden, planted with tiny viola's - but rather flattened ones (!!!)
Dear friends - this is currently what my Lounge room looks like !! Last week, in a total moment of madness, I decided to empty out my sewing room, wash the walls down, paint the ceiling & then hopefully only put three quarters of it all back again π
I am at that stage of seriously thinking I might be just a teeny bit insane !!! I have washed the walls down & am slowly sorting through every single drawer & container, while I wait for The Mr to paint the ceiling ... we may be a while dear friends π Wish me luck as I have a bit of a sinking feeling I am going to need it (!!)
Thank you as always dear friends, for your welcome visits here today,
Sending much love & friendship to you all,
I had to laugh at Blackies sleeping place. Poor flattened violas. Oh my, you are going to be busy sorting for awhile.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Your hot house....wow, look at it, so cool, ok maybe not cool cool, but the growth is incredible in such a short space of time. I see lots of good quilty cat sleep places for your 3 fur babies xx Oh dear cleaning out our sewing rooms is ALWAYS dangerous! Every time i do it I get side tracked..."oh look at that, I forgot about that..." etc etc. I recently did my sewing nook & I'm not that happy with the layout. Julie we need more members in The Winter Lovers Club...:)
ReplyDeleteYour hothouse is producing well and your new garden display looks great. Always interesting to see what you put together. Such a pretty hot water bottle cover. Hope you get that ceiling painted soon, looks like you will have a mammoth task putting everything back! xx
ReplyDeleteGoodess! Julie! I did'nt realise you had pussy~cats...HeHe! Bless! :).
ReplyDeleteAnd Little One...Legs in the air..? Wonder who he got that from.....
And dear old old Blackie...Cats are like gorillas...Where do they sleep?
Anywhere they want to...! :).
The tomatoes look nice to....I love tomatoes, especially when they come
out the garden, in different sizes...Lovely!
And, they need to come out of the garden, to have any taste, supermarket
tomatoes are generally rubbish, there usually forced, and have no taste at
all,,,! :(
Mum's urn looks nice to, love the colour, and you'll have to look out for some
'real' vine/ivy Julie....! It does set it off though....
The hot-water bottle covers are nice, though l don't have a hot-water bottle,
never have, and never will...the cold does'nt really bother me....!
And..I have three rooms in my home, that are rather over stocked...but...being
a typical Virgo, everything is 'always' yes 'always' neat and tidy...HeHe! I can't
stand untidiness, I don't mind things lying about, but, it must be folded/packed
in a neat and tidy way...! And, having been a single parent for fourteen years, my
daughter, is a chip..off the old block..HeHe! Namely me..! :).

PS...
Bet you put 'ALL' of it back in the lounge room Julie...??? :O).
Oh crickey Julie that's a lot to get through but you'll feel so free afterwards! I'm trying to get rid of stuff too. Luckily, my niece has just taken up crochet so I've been offloading all yarny stuff to her, including books and magazines! Good luck with it all. Look forward to the 'after' pics!
ReplyDeleteOh, my word, Julie, whatever have you done? You are brave, and it will all be lovely when it's done, but . . . but . . . good luck, is all I can say. (Actually, quite envious that you've embarked on such a project . . . ) πΊπΈπΉ
ReplyDeleteI really like your new header! Got your email and hope this med works and that's that. I too am cutting leggy plants back, just not outdoors, lol. My 2 impatiens are 4 years old and in the house overwinter they needed a hair cut. My 3 coleus are now a foot tall and need cut but then my dilemma would be to pot 3 more, but my flower bed has no room. Your cutting because it's hot and dry. You do keep your porch so vibrant with flowers and planters. I think some one needs to cut off your supply of paint! Glad to see the kitties today. Good luck with finishing your lounge before Autumn. ReplyDeleteOh Julie you made me laugh , I have been sorting out my craft room to .
ReplyDeleteI have a bigger mess than when I started . I do this once a year and I do give allot away to my local clubs .
But why will it not fit back tidy ! .I know what you are feeling , HELP .
But you do make me smile , love those sweet peas . Best of luck from the bottom of my heart .
Hugs June.
Some more amazing upcycling and reusing. The plant looks like it has always lived in the urn. You have a good haul of tomatoes and cucumbers too. Little One - he really is living his best life! Blackie looks most at home too, even if the violas won't do so well having been squashed! If I put all my craft supplies in our sitting room (there are already a lot in there!), they would fill the room. I feel your pain...
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and happy sorting!
Ellie
I was thinking Valentines to my self before I read what you had written haha, but it looks cute , think I have that vine still stuck in the polystyrene:-) good luck with getting your sewing room back in order, don't know how you do it in the heat, I have been emptying out our top hutch, I'm going to repaint it and hang it in the bathroom for storage, just got to find a good day to paint it in between our hot days, 38 tomorrow, and then it says down to 17 on Saturday, silly Melbourne weather.
ReplyDeleteI almost commented on the last post - no cats, is that even allowed? LOL! Good luck on the big purge :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much JJ. Yes whenever I hit Publish & there are no cat photos I think there will be an uproar π !! Thank you for leaving your kind comment. xx
DeleteIt's amazing how quickly colder days creep up on us. The hexies hot water bottle is pretty. The sweet peas here, are also going to seed. Your hothouse is fabulous. You have a plentiful harvest of tomatoes there. You've got a big job there with your sewing room but I can just imagine how fabulous it will be when it's done and you have everything sorted, Julie. If will all look amazing.
ReplyDeleteOMG Julie, good luck with returning your stash !!! Your vege harvest looks perfectly yummy. Loved the decoupaged candle. You clever clogs you (^!*)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your new hot water bottle cover Julie -you would definately be needing that where I live at the moment - its so cold. Have a lovely week. Sarah USA xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sarah. I do hope you get some warmer temps very soon. xx
DeleteI do love the comfort of a hot water bottle and that is a very pretty one..... haha... what fun you are having in your house! will be worth it in the end

Oh Julie, what a project your sewing room revamp is turning into... I feel for you! I am down to five boxes in my lounge area, and some in my wardrobe...soon the inner of the wardrobe will be done, and then hopefully I can get rid of all the cartons!!
ReplyDeleteLove your hot-water bottle cover - that looks beautiful, as well as practical!
It's certainly been hot - this cooler weather is a blessing, as well as the rain, not that we have actually had much. My tomatoes are late and only just ripening, but my courgette plant has become a triffid, and is trying to take over the garden - I have never had one grow so big!
Blessings
Maxine
Furry family certainly take liberty's lol! Lovely makeover on your urn and your hothouse is working well. I love your French General cover....my favourite fabrics. You're a brave woman tackling your sewing room. Good luck xx
ReplyDeleteWell they always say you have to make a mess first to tidy one! And wow you have a job to do.. I'm so envious of those tomatoes they look amazing. can't wait to get mine started here in UK.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Chris. I am guessing it will be spring soon in the Uk & you can plant your tomatoes. Thank you for stopping by & leaving your sweet kind comment. xx
DeleteYour table display is lovely. I love the hot water bottle cover. You certainly set yourself a big job cleaning out your sewing. Bet you'll be pleased once you get it all sorted. Good luck with only putting 3/4 of it back Julie! xx
