Advent Calendars & Tilda Angel Mice

Greetings dear friends & readers &  Welcome to December !!

May it be a good month for us all 💗

I finally got around to wrapping up the 48 small parcels that I had been squirrelling away during the year to fill my grandsons Advent Calendars.  You can read about the creating of these calendars in this post from last Christmas

You may notice that Stocking No 13 is empty ... this is because this is a treasure hunt day when the parcel gets hidden elsewhere in the house & they have to find it 😊

On Monday the 30th of November I drove out to each of my grandson's homes to hand deliver their Advents ready for opening on December 1st.  I got to collect Alec from school & we went back to his place & decorated his Christmas Tree which was fun.

Then on the way home I called in to Sid's house & gave him his Advent Calendar - I really enjoy doing these for them both but am also rather pleased I only have two to do 😉

I took the photo above to show you just how difficult it can be around here at times creating anything at all!!  Blackie has moved from my new oilcloth cover to my sewing table now ... he has taken up residence on the cover that goes over my machine & the left hand pic is me trying to sew the mouse (below) while he glares at me through the other side & wonders why I have to make so much noise !!!

I have wanted to make the Tilda Angel Mouse for several months now - the pattern is a free download on the Tilda website - go * Here * to find it & scroll right down the page

I dug into my precious Tilda fabrics to make Miss Mousie as I wanted to gift her to my (step) grandaughter Juno for Christmas.

I love how she turned out 💕 ... I added a ribbon & silk rosette to mine & also a little bow on her tail.

I also used some feather wings that I had on hand instead of sewing wings as stated in the pattern.

Miss Mousie is going along with the beautiful dress I bought from Bo and Co in this post * here * ... & a sweet little Scottie dog purchased from this gorgeous shop in Hawera

Juno's parcel is all tied up & under the tree - it doesn't hurt in the slightest to have a touch of pink at Christmas time

The personalised swing tag is from Love from Seventeen online store

If there was an award for World's slowest knitter I think I could well be in the running ... but I do enjoy knitting the cotton bamboo washcloths of an evening.  I have been knitting up little bundles to gift this Christmas along with a handmade soap - I enjoy making & gifting these so much.

Alec came to Granny's for a sleepover on the weekend so we spent an hour at the park & he had a wonderful time on all the equipment.

I have been doing quite a bit of Christmas decorating in the house & will be back in a few days with some photos to share with you.  In the meantime have a wonderful week dear friends & thank You SO much as always - for your visits here today.

With much love & friendship to you ALL.

Love Julie & the furry ones x0x0x

  4. Hello Julie I absolutely love those advent calendars - they are fabulous and what a fun idea doing the treasure hunt on one of the days. So good that you were able to personally deliver them too. The little bunny for Juno is perfect, the finishing touches make it special - I love the idea of a bow on her tail :) and feather wings - much nicer than fabric I think. I hope you and your family all have a wonderful and safe Christmas. We are in tier 2 here and only allowed to socialise indoors with people from same household although we know many are bending the rules. I decorated a small pot grown tree yesterday and it really lifted my spirits. My little cat doesn't 'interfere' with sewing and things - she's very polite! I don't know how you get anything done at all with Blackie so close to your machine :) Take care - Betty x

  6. Here l am..at last..Goodness! Busy! Busy! :).
It ALL looks lovely Julie..lovely! And seeing
Alec doing the tree, reminded me of my daughter,
who wanted to decorate the tree, and being only
three feet tall, she could only decorate the
bottom bit..HeHe! I did the top bit, and with
three cats, the tree had to be redecorated
several times, what with them running up and
down it, and knocking the baubles off..! :).

And the idea of the Advent calendar once again,
    is brilliant, lovely..
And Angel Mouse is lovely to..I thought it might
    be a prezzie for Blackie..!x
And perhaps hhe's trying to take over Miss Pippi's
job as assistant..! With sleeping privilege's..! :).

    Well..best get on..few pheasants to see to..they
started shooting again last Friday..as Lockdown was
lifted a week ago, and the vaccine starts tomorrow,
for front line workers, care homes, and over eighties!
So hopefully the Uk is getting there, be a bit of a while
    yet though...!

  7. Dear Julie, Other than this post (as usual or mostly as usual because sometimes it is super extra!!) looks so awesome, most particularly your Tilda Angel Mouse makes my heart sing!! Adorable.. because I do so love Tilda's creation and material and everything. Lucky lucky Juno! What a fab grand-mother you are....you have thought of everything for your two Grands. The advent trees are fabulous and having to search for one of the gifts around the house on the 13th is a thrilling activity!! So very much enjoyed this post thank you for making my day...truly!! keep well Amanda x

  8. That's a lot of sewn stockings to make, Julie! And then fill, so I'd say keeping up with 2 only is plenty to do.
Love Blackie's idea of napping at the active sewing machine. Precious gave up doing such years ago. Not that I use
my machine like you do yours. I have my small amount of decorations up already. Colored lights to ward off the dark
and wintery weather. Having a bit of freezing drizzle and snow this morn. Baby Juno will be dressed to the nines with
the lovely baby dress. Have a great week ahead. Lynn

    1. Thanks so much for your lovely comment Lynn. Yes I'm not sure I could afford to do it if I had lots more grandchildren ... it works out not cheap. I am sitting here sweltering in our humidity & trying to imagine you have drizzle & snow Lynn ... its just strange to get my head around. Hope you have a great week too & manage to stay warm. xx

  9. Your grandsons are so lucky having the advent calenders you create for them each year Julie. I bet they get so much pleasure from them. The mouse is just gorgeous, you have put together a beautiful gift for your grand daughter. Blakcie wants to get in in the sewing action I see, or maybe he just wants a comfy place to sleep near you 😀. The wash cloths and soap make a beautiful present. Wonderful saying, that needs to bill boards in public places so everyone can read it.

  14. Great advent calendars Julie - so much nicer than the bought ones full of chocolate. Angel mouse is gorgeous and beautiful packaging of your gifts. Your cotton bamboo washcloths - is that a mixture of cotton and bamboo? Stay safe. xx

  16. Those advent trees are incredible! What lucky boys!
The Tilda mouse is very sweet, down to the last detail. By the way, I had to laugh at your casual comment about using feather wings you had on hand. My thought was, "Only Julie would just happen to have a spare set of feather wings on hand. " :)
The washcloths and soap make a nice gift. I spent last night making over 100 packages of my handmade soap in Christmas shapes for gifting.
Hope you have a lovely Christmas, and I look forward to seeing your Christmas decor.

  17. Oh my goodness, such a lot of love and time has gone into the making of the advent stockings. What a fun grandmother you are. I adore Miss Mousie! How sweet she looks in her pretty dress. Oh, I so agree with you, Christmas is all the better with a sprinkling of pink in it.
